8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, January 4,1984 Dutchman Bantams "Player of the Week" MIKE GALLANT No. 11 Center 1 Toros Strike Gold at llespeler Tourney The Flying Dutchman Major Bantams Toros played : five games of winning hockey to earn the gold medal at the Hespeler Minor Hockey Olympics over the Christmas holidays. Oshawa won the silver and London received the bronze. To wind up the tournament, the championship team played an all star team made up of three players from each of the five remaining teams who were chosen for their 1 performance during the week. Three Toros were also chosen for this team but they played for the Toros. The players chosen were Chris Beck No. 12, Brian Noble No. 14, and Jamie Lever No. 16. i The all-star opened the scoring scoring in the first at the 8:19 mark off the stick of G. Duchene (Hespeler), assisted by B. Brennan (London) and J. Eaton (Hespeler). Chris Beck evened the score halfway through the period on relays from George Pithie and Brian Noble. The Toros took the lead early in the second when Chris Shmyr slapped in a rebound. . Mike Gallant and Scott Page were in on the scoring play. T. Green from Hespeler scored the winner from teammate J. Eaton and B. Chard,(London). Webster and Smith shared the netminding duties for the Toros and faced 21 shots, while D. Smyth (Welland) and G. Isley (Preston) were between between the pipes for the allstars. allstars. They were tested 23 times. Greg Lewis from Oshawa coached the team. Congratulations to all the players and coaching staff for their great showing and special mention to the Campbells who supported the boys throughout the week. Even though their son Glen was injured and unable to play in the Tournament, they were at all the games and even made the trip on Wednesday in the foul weather. That's team support!
