Shaw's, recently celebrated their Twenty-fifth Anniversary Anniversary at the Bowmanville Lions Club. After a beautiful roast beef dinner served by the Lionesses the evening was spent in dancing with Frank Barkey in charge of the music. Friends and relatives attended attended from Bethany, Bolton, Carleton Place, Cobourg, Kingston, Nepean, Niagara Falls, Omemee, Peterborough, Peterborough, Pontypool, Scarborough, Scarborough, Toronto and the Bowmanville area. Special messages of congratulations arrived from Sanford, Maine; Robsart, Saskatchewan; Okanagan Falls, B.C.; and Anaheim, California. New Zealand and then to Hawaii for the last two weeks. At 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 8th a delicious hot dinner and a hearty welcome was ready for the fifty four members of the Ashton family at the home of Bill and June Bragg. During the afternoon old time slides were shown by Bill with a great deal of laughter laughter and reminiscence. Tea, coffee and goodies brought to a close another yearly event. Bowmanville Women's Institute The Bowmanville Women's' Institute met at 2 p.m. on Jan. 5th, in Trinity Church Hall, with 20 members ■ and two guests present. After the singing singing of O Canada, Institute Ode, and repeating in unison the Mary Stewart Collect, Mrs. J. Brine, president, welcomed all back for the New Year. Minutes of last meeting were read and adopted. Treasurer's report was given. Mrs. E. Twist gave the second reading of our Resolution, Resolution, and to be finalized at the February meeting. Varied answers were given to the role call "Most problems problems are short - what were you worrying about a year ago." Citizenship and World Affairs and Resolutions was the theme of our meeting. Mrs. E. Twist and her group were in charge. Mrs. Twist gave a short reading. Mrs. Rose Hately favoured us with two lovely solos - Amazing Grace and It's a Small World, accompanied by Mrs. Amacher on the'piano. Our speaker was Mrs. La Costa, Public Hetalth Nurse in the Port Hope 'and Cobourg area. She told of her family and lifé in herhothe country of Jamaica. The influence of the family in her work as a nurse and later into the Public Health division of nursing. Her amiable manner and presentation presentation was most impressive. impressive. We were again favoured by another solo by Mrs. Hately. The Motto "People are born into freedom - do not know its value" was very ably given by Mrs. Betty Morrison.
