» L i 9 2 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, January 11 1984 OBITUARIES - Section Two JANE ELSIE ARD A lifelong resident of Clarke Township, Jane Elsie Ard (Burgess) passed away on Tuesday, November 1st, 1983, at Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Born on August 25th, 1889, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Ann Burgess. Her early life was spent on the Eighth Line, Clarke, where she attended Oak school. She became a dressmaker and followed this career until her marriage to Robert Ard on December 22nd, 1914. She devoted her life to the activities of farm wife, and mother, and to the church as a member of Kirby United Church and the U.C.W. On moving to Kirby and later to Orono she became a member of Orono Senior Citizens. She is survived by daughters Gladys (Mrs. Lawrence Greenwood), Kathleen (Mrs. Ray Bryson), and son James, also 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The Rev. Wayne Wright officiated at the funeral service service held on Thursday, at the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville. Pallbearers were five grandsons and one great- grandson Ralph, Grant and Murray Greenwood, David Ard, Timothy Blaker and Michael Murphy. Interment Orono Cemetery. EARLBRUCE CLARK Earl Bruce Clark died at age 63, December 13th, 1983 at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital. Born in Rocanville, Saskatchewan, Mr. Clark was a resident of Bowmanville since 1930. He attended Bowmanville Central School and O.C.V.I., Oshawa and was a member of Trinity United Church, Bowmanville. Mr. Clark worked for Carton's Bus Line before joining The Canadian Army, Transport Division, in 1942. He served overseas and on his return to Canada in 1946 was employed by Stocker's Garage. In 1953 he joined General Motors lift truck repair department from which he retired in March 1983. Mr. Clark was a boating enthusiast and long time member of Bowmanville Square Dancing Clubs. Mr. Clark is survived by his mother, Edith Clark, his devoted wife, the former June Luffman, children Donald, Susan and Peggy, his sister M.orna Edwards and three : nieces. A man's man, Earl Clark will be remembered by his many friends and associates for his unselfish, philosophical approach to life. Always willing to lend a hand, always there when you needed him. Such men leave their mark in life. Earl will be truly missed by all whose lives he touched. PEARLSMALE The death of a well known and respected citizen, Pearl Smale, aged 68, occurred on Tuesday, December 13th, 1983, at Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, following a brief illness. Daughter of the late William and Annie (Ball) Holland, she was born and educated in Toronto. On October 30th, 1937, she was married to Leslie Smale. A resident at 252 King Street East, Bowmanville, for the past ten years, she was a member of the Bowmanville Lioness Club, and the Golden Age Bowlers. Left to mourn her passing are her husband Les, daughter Mary Anne, (Mrs. Maurice Richards), sons Hugh, Bill and Dennis, a brother Arthur Holland, Toronto, grandchildren grandchildren Linda, Brett, Andrew, Erik and Carrie, great grandchildren grandchildren Jolene, Robert and Edward, daughters-in-law, Marlene and Sue. The Reverend James Gilchrist officiated at the funeral services held at the Morris Funeral Chapel, on Thursday. Many beautiful floral tokens were received in her memory attesting to the esteem : in which the deceased was held, including tributes from the Bowmanville Lions Club, Deloitte Haskins and Sells, Charterways Ltd., General Motors Canada, Jerusalem Lodge, A.F. and A.M., 4T Bowlers, plus many donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. Griffin, R. R. 2, Blackstock. Bom in East Whitby Township, Township, she was educated at Enfield and Enniskillen, and was married March 14th, 1923 to the late Russell McLaughlin. McLaughlin. The daughter of Fred and Martha Mountjoy, she had resided at Caesarea, R. R. 2, Blackstock (Burketon), Enniskillen and Bowmanville. A devoted wife and mother, she was interested in family, friends, the church and the community. She was a member of the United Church. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Ruby (Mrs. F. Griffin), son James, daughter Audrey (Mrs. J. Walker), 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
