In our first game after the holiday lay-off, we defeated Oshawa Antiques 8 - 5. Wayne Mapes led the losers with two goals, singles going to Courtice, Courtice, Smith and Whitely. David Green was our most effective forward, scoring three goals and assisting on Grant Wright's marker. Grant Wright, who usually plays goal, has been playing left wing in most of our recent games. Art Hester has been in goal and has played brilliantly in all of our contests this year. Grant picked up two assists on David Green's goals and another another on Gerry Henderson's. The line of Flintoff, Sains- bury and Marjerrison played well. Both Bob and George scored, with assists goint to the two linemates on each goal. Bob Deblois concluded the scoring on a breakaway pass from Bob Sheridan. Last Tuesday night, we travelled to Bewdley arena to defeat the Peterborough Relics 13 - 5. Grant Flintoff scored the first three goals of the game and it appeared that Grant was going to be the whole show. His linemate, George Sainsbury, however, scored the fourth goal from Bob Marjerrison. At this point, Dan Girard!, one of the team's two 52 year old defencemen took over and scored two goals on one shift with bullet drives that eluded the harassed Relics' netmin- der. Jim Olinski, the other senior citizen, then scored with assists on the Girard! and Olinski goals going to the forwards, forwards, Deblois, German and Rohr. Bob Deblois scored two goals in the games, ably abetted by the two aging defencemen defencemen mentioned above. A lot of credit in this game and others we have played recently must go to our defence corps. Warren Towns- ley and Bob Skene did yeoman service supporting the forward forward line of Grant Wright, Bob Sheridan and Bob Hellam. Ray Crombie and Roger Shingler, who are really pussy cats, tend to intimidate intimidate the opposition with their imposing appearance. The skill of Olinski and Girardi has already been attested. Bob Hellam scored a goal on a pass from Ray Crombie. Bob Sheridan, the oldest player on the team, finished the scoring with three goals which were set up by Grant Wright and Bob Hellam. It was apparent in this game that the senior citizens carried the load and were responsible for six of the thirteen goals. On Sunday last, we played an exciting game but lost 5 - 4 to Town Sports, the newest of the local oldtimers' teams. Ken Hall opened the scoring assisted by Taullie Thompson and Phil Green. Bob Sheridan then took a pass from David Green and drove in a blazing shot that mesmerised the bewildered bewildered goaltender. Hugh German then fired a bullet drive to put King Garden ahead 2-1. Taullie Thompson tied the score on a pass from Phil Green. Towne then went ahead 4 - 2 on goals by Erik Strand from Gerry Lever and Jim Dunn and Wally MacKay from Mike Knight. King Garden fought back. Ron Clemens took a breakaway pass from Ray Crombie to race in and drive a perfect shot to the far corner. Ron Rushak passed the puck to Bob Deblois in the corner. Bob stick-handled brilliantly and drew two defenders to him before he passed to Roger Shingler in the shot. Roger then fired a low drive into the net. In the exciting final period, Wally MacKay scored on a pass from Roy Jeffers. Then, Towne Sports put on a solid checking display for the final minutes of the game to thwart our team. King Garden welcomes Bruce Meadows to its roster. Our next game is against Orono in Bowmanville Arena on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. Be sure to come out to support us.
