The team fired 31 shots at the Thornhill goalie but they made him look good as many of their drives were at his pads from far out. The first period was scoreless scoreless while each team was assessed a penalty. Brian Noble had a goal disallowed at the 9:30 mark in the second as he deflected the shot from over his shoulder and then as usually happens in this type of situation the opposition came back just over a minute later and scored at the 8:22 mark to end the period. Thornhill took three penalties penalties to two for the Toros but it wasn't until 1:20 left in the game that Chris Beck passed to Noble who after partially missing the relay picked up the loose puck and blasted the shot past their goalie to gain the tie. Tough luck struck Glen Campbell again as he got checked into the boards late in the third period and wound up with a broken collar-bone. Glen had just returned to action following an injury to his knee which sidelined him for several weeks and had gotten back into form once again when this happened. We're hoping that it is not a bad break and Glen will be able to return for some of the playoffs. Take it easy No. 15! ! Constable's Corner P.C. Don Anderson, Durham Regional Police : Community Services This week I would like to bring to your attention Bill 61, "An Act to Regulate off-road Vehicles" which has been passed recently. Many complaints have been received in recent years that the users of motorized off-road vehicles are annoying local residents by making excessive noise, destroying the natural environment and operating their vehicles in a hazardous manner in populated areas such as school yards and public parks. Some sections became law on November 9, 1983, other sections on February 1, 1984 and one section will become law on August 1,1984. The following is a summary of the main concepts in this Act: The definition of off-road vehicles is limited to motorized motorized two and three wheeled vehicles and will include selected classes of off road vehicles with four or more wheels. All owners of such off highway highway vehicles will be required to register their vehicles unless unless they are licenced under the Highway Traffic Act. There will be a one time registration fee which is valid for the lifetime of the holder. Vehicles cannot be registered registered to anyone under the age of 16 years. No person under 12 years of age may drive an off road vehicle except where the vehicle being driven is operated operated on land owned or occupied by the owner of the vehicle, A permit and plate will be issued to all vehicles, the plate will remain with the original owner upon transfer of the vehicle. This is the same as our new vehicle registration system now in use for automobiles. automobiles. All changes of ownership and address changes must be reported to the Ministry within within six days. Public liability insurance will be required on vehicles everywhere except if used exclusively exclusively on land occupied by the owner of the vehicle, (will become law August 1,1984) Approved helmets must be worn at all times except on land occupied by the owner of the vehicle. The responsibility for violations violations under this Act and any liability for loss or damage will be placed upon the owner, as well as the operator. Operators, when requested, will be required to provide some personal identification to peace officers. Penalties imposed under this Act will be recoverable under the Provincial Offences Act. I would remind readers again that the above comments comments are merely a summary of the main concepts of the Act, for more detailed information information please read the entire Act. Parents of young people operating these off road vehicles are urged to always know where and how the vehicles are being operated.
