They'd better make certain they aren't over confident. We wish them well and expect them to come through as league champions if they play up to their potential. Coach Paul Robinson will certainly be doing his utmost to keep the boys geared up. Jan. 14th, the Durham Building Supplies Pee Wee 2's participated in a round-robin tournament in Bancroft. Maybe the excitement excitement of being billeted took the boys' minds off their play, but whatever the reasons, they were not in the game. Bancroft Bancroft scored 21 seconds into the game and from then on it was all downhill for Bowmanville, Bowmanville, with occasional sparks of life. Bancroft finally defeated defeated Bowmanville 5 - 2. Nicky Dennis scored both goals for Bowmanville. The second game of the tournament was against Barry's Bay. Barry's Bay scored in the first period, and added three more in the second, while Bowmanville slipped back into their old bad habit of not passing. Finally, at the end of the third period, they started to come to life, with Nicky Dennis scoring two quick goals. However, the recovery recovery came too late and Bowmanville was defeated 4 - 2. On Sunday, they played their third and last game, against Napanee. Finally, things started to click for our boys and they began to work as a team. Nicky Dennis opened opened the scoring mid-way through the first period, leading leading the team on a scoring spree that resulted in 11 goals, every boy earning at least one point. Napanee broke Robert Romano's shut-out late in the third period, but Bowmanville held their ground and won 11 - 1. A parent from Bancroft asked why Bowmanville had not played like that for the first two games and we responded responded with our well worn cry "Who knows?". A big thank you to Orville Hindman who provided transportation transportation for many of the boys. Durham Building Supplies Pee Wees played in the Brighton Brighton Tournament the weekend of Jan. 20 and 21. In this their 8th tournament of the season, they ended up in the B Championship Championship rqund. The first game resulted in an overtime loss for the Toros, at the hands of Pickering Town. The score was 4 - 3. The Toros quickly opened the scoring scoring and had a 2 - 0 lead (they were easily the better team), however the tide turned when they could not capitalize on a two man advantage. The reason for this was the same old story, one player carrying the puck whilst the others watched. Pickering then started started to establish their game and tied the score. Ian Knight provided a lift to the team by scoring the third goal and then the Toros played well again. In the third period, Pickering scored the equalizer which sent the game into overtime. There were no real stars in this game, Nicky Dennis and Jeff Acheson scored but the defensive play ' of Cecil 1 Stephenson and Michael Col- bourne was good. Brighton 3 Toros 5 - Bowmanville Bowmanville were three goals down in no time during this contest and it was unfortunate because most of the play was in Brighton's end. It looked as if nothing would go right for the Toros but suddenly a break came when the Toros were a man short and Jim Pithie seized an opportunity when he intercepted a pass, skated the length of the ice and deftly beat thegoaltender. From this 'jxtint tin things improved, improved, Robert 1 Romano got his act together arid played shut-out hockey. Marc Peirce scored a goal, Jeremy Laird turned in a strong performance, performance, as did Phillip Green and Brad Lyons, whilst Jeff Rohr playing defence played a very steady game. Andrew Day also turned in a steady defensive effort. The strong turn around in the game resulted resulted from good passing by team members and the Toros deserved deserved to win this game. Pickering Village 6 Bowmanville Bowmanville 2 - The score looks bad but the Toros stayed with an excellent Pickering team every step of the way. Jim Pithie may have dreams after this game, he scored one goal and because of his good positional positional play had numerous opportunities to score more. Of course the Pickering goal- tender did his best to make things tough for the Toros and was most successful. Paul Hindman put in a strong effort in this game and played his position well. He too had scoring chances, but was unlucky. unlucky. There were some encouraging encouraging signs for the team as they approach the playoffs, such as consistently strong games by Jim and Marc plus the ability to battle back and keep trying.
