Tamlin, occurred on Thursday, Thursday, January 5th, 1984 at Victoria Manor, Lindsay. In his 92nd year he had been ill for two years. He was the son of the late William and Emily Thompson and was born in Fenelon Township, Victoria Victoria County. He was educated educated in Mariposa Twsp., and in 1914 was married to, the late Ethel Owens. . A resident of the Oshawa area since 1924, he had farmed in Mariposa Twsp., and had been employed for 35 years in the Stamping Plant at General Motors of Canada. He retired 20 years ago. Surviving are a daughter Jean (Mrs. Gerald Peterson), Peterson), grandchildren Myrna (Mrs. Paul McCullough), Courtice, Rick Peterson, of Oshawa, and Paul Peterson of New Denver, B.C. The Reverend Edward McCrae, officiated at the funeral services held on Sunday, January 8th, at the Stoddart Funeral Home, Lindsay. Pallbearers were great grandchildren Robert and David McCullough, nephews Ken, Leigh and Bill Tamlin, and a cousin Allin Tamblyn. Interment Eden Cemetery, Cemetery, Mariposa Twsp., Victoria Victoria County. THOMAS H. HAYES In failing health the past year, Thomas H. Hayes, aged 96, passed away at Strathaven Nursing Home, Bowmanville on Wednesday, July 11th, 1964. Arriving in Canada in 1907, he was born in Ireland, and had resided in Bowmanville for 71 years. In 1912 he married Mary Jane Dawson. He retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., 27 years ago and was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, the LOL2348, Bowmanville and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 178. During World War I he was wounded at Vimy Ridge. He received a 70 year pin for active service from the LOL2348, and a 50 year service pin from the Legion. Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife Mary, sons Russell and Jack, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Robert. The Reverend Byron Yates officiated at the funeral services held on Saturday, at the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville. Complete committal was held in the chapel. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. APIIA I. HODGINS Following a lengthy illness, a well known and respected citizen, Apha I. Hodgins, passed away on Wednesday, December 2lst, 1983 in her 92nd year. Miss Hodgins, a lawyer by profession for 60 years, was born in Lucan and educated in Lucan and at the University of Toronto. She was the daughter of Adam and Sarah Hodgins. A resident of Bowmanville for 40 years, she had been self- employed here, retiring five, years ago. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church. Miss Hodgins was the first women president of the Northumberland Northumberland Law Association in the early 1950's and was the first woman in the history of the Ontario Law School to head the class, winning the Bicknell prize for highest marks in commercial law. Survivors are her cousins Margaret Fairies King, Vivian Fairies, Fruin and Dr. J.E. Schinbein of Prince Rupert, B.C. Funeral services were held at the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville, on Friday, with the Reverend Edward Schamerhorn officiating. Interment St. James Cemetery, Cemetery, Clandeboye. EDITH JOINT A former assistant to the dietitian at Memorial Hospital, Hospital, Bowmanville, Edith Joint, aged 76, passed away on Friday, January 20th, 1984, at Memorial Hospital, following a two weeks illness. illness. Born at Lindsay and educated educated in Bowmanville, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Joint. She was employed at Memorial Hospital from August 1951 until December December 31st, 1972 when she retired. A member of Trinity United Church, she was also a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are her sister- in-law Mary Joint of Lindsay and a nephew Stuart Joint of Orillia. She was predeceased by a brother Harvey. The Reverend John Peters Peters officiated at the funeral services held on Monday at the Morris Funeral Chapel. The organist was Mrs. J. Albert Albert Cole. I STANLEY SMITH The death of Stanley Smith occurred at his home in Bowmanville, on Friday, December 9th, 1983, following an illness of six weeks. Born at Trimsaron, Wales, and educated at Llanelly, Wales, he was the son of William and Mary Smith (late) and was married September 21st, 1935 to Hilda Louise Scott. A resident of Bowmanville for 35 years, he had previously resided for 14 years in Jamaica, West Indies. He was employed as Chief Supervisor at the Boys Training School, Bowmanville, retiring 10 years ago. A. member of St. John's Anglican Church, he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Royal Canadian Canadian Legion. He was a member of the British Army, Manchester Regiment. Surviving are his wife Hilda Louise Scott, a daughter Margaret, (Mrs. Neil Bain), a son David Smith and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Morris Funeral Chapel on Monday with the Reverend Alan Langley officiating. Pallbearers were Messrs. John, Edwin and Norm Smith, John Logan, Harold Quarry and Ken Locke. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery.
