< The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, February 8,1984 Section Two Back to Normal By Janice Seto, Editor After the month of exams, the title of this article couldn't be more appropriate. The panicky, subdued mass has finally reverted to its normally normally exuberant self. With fears of university and college admissions admissions standards in the background, Bowmanville High School has turned its attention to Heart Fund Week. Our school has supported the Heart Fund in many different different ways. Apart from our donations raised from annual fundraising drives, brave members of the staff and students donated blood during last week's clinic hours. Mr. Le Gresley spent a few minutes of the grade 13 Biology Biology class lecturing about the role blood plays in the body and exhorting eligible people to donate blood. Dot McFar- lane, who managed to muster enough courage, said giving blood was one of the best things a person could do. She said her first time was a relatively painless experience and hopes to return soon. The second week of February is Heart Fund Week. The Student Council has announced the five "label" days Sunglasses, Hat, and Tie, Spirit Day, and Toga Day are the highlights. There 0 will be a Staff - Student hockey game with the students out for revenge. Carnations for your favourite love will be sold. And the Sexiest Men at BHS contest will be held, too. Tickets and nomination forms for flowers, the game, and the contest can be bought at the box office area during the lunches. c Nominations for the Sexiest Men contest are for two categories: categories: teacher and student. YOUR HEART MAT NEED US AS MUCH AS WE NEED YOU. Q? Givefrom ilie Heart. Canadian Heart Fund. Ladies are encouraged to shed their shyness and nominate. The winners will be announced announced during the Fun Fest on Friday. (The rules may be changed.) The Fun Fest will be the climax of the week's activities. activities. The Staff Trike Race will be one of the major attractions. attractions. Replacing the Pie In The Face spectacle will be the Staff Dunk Tank. Balls will be auctioned off and the buyers will have a chance to soak their favourite teachers. Note to all English teachers: you will greatly augment the amount of money to be donated donated to the Heart Fund if you volunteer to be dunked! Needless to say, the proceeds proceeds from the Slave Auction, carnations, hockey tickets, fun fest tickets etc. will be donated to the Heart Fund. So, don't forget to contribute. And have fun at the same time. "The King and I" The preliminary prépara- : tions for the May production : have been underway for about a week. Final cast has been selected after several auditions auditions by directors Mr. Sheridan Sheridan and Mr. Lindop. The crew for the "King and I" has i; begun promotional activities. ' Names like Gertrude Law- rence, Yul Brenner, Deborah Kerr, and Rex Harrison have been heard by the decorators of the showcase during the i week. Even the Editor is in- ■ volved. The cast and crew . hope the famous musical will be made into a hit like the previous productions of "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Man of La Mancha." Course selections for the next year will be due soon. All students are asked to thoroughly thoroughly inspect our new calendar calendar for courses appropriate for the goals of the future. Student Services will be holding holding selection meetings for all interested students. Perhaps this time is most ' opportune to welcome the grade eight students from our feeder Senior Public Schools. There will be new Ministry of Education rules as well as a new school with which the new students will have to contend. The new system (in effect next year) will introduce the new diploma, the Ontario Secondary Secondary School Graduation Diploma. The new students will have more compulsary credits to take for the 30 credit diploma. Good luck with your course selections and welcome. welcome. And to our first French immersion class "Bienvenue a 1' ecole secondaire Bowmanville!" Bowmanville!"
