Other goals were by John Hughes and Peter Werry, with assists going to John Hughes, and Irwin Colwell. FLASHBACK -- 10 YEARS AGO -- Next month, Bowmanville Memorial Arena will celebrate the 25th year since it opened the doors to the public. Cliff Samis, Mel Wight and John James formed the committee to raise funds for the arena, and Roy Neads was hired as the manager. SOFTBALL -- Word has been received that the Cobourg Legion Minor Softball Association will be the hosts for the Ontario Amateur Softball Association Squirt "B" championship tournament in Cobourg, August 25 - 26. RIVER RACE -- If you want to have a laugh and a fun day, plan now to attend the fourth annual "Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny" river race to be held in Port Hope on April 7th. Other events planned for Port Hope Sesquicen- tennial celebrations include a Voyageur Canoe Race, July 28 - 29, the Grand Prix Cycle Race sponsored by Molson's, August 11th, and the Lakeshore Shriner's Sesqui Rodeo, September 8th-9th. FIGURE SKATING -- The Whitby Figure Skating Club will hold its Whitby International Precision Skating Competition on March 10 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Iroquois Park Arena. Over 40 teams are expected to participate in this event in all categories. All Whitby teams are entered including the Canadian Novice Silver Medalists for 1983, the Whitby Ice Angels. Tickets will be sold at the door. ARENA RATES -- For the 1984-85 season at the Town of Newcastle arenas ice rentals will be $50 per hour, $55 for outsiders using ice time and public skating fees will be set at $1 per hour, a five dollar increase for ice time per hour, and 25$ for skating per hour. CONGRATULATIONS -- After winning the Douro Oldtimers "A" Championship two weeks ago the Manvers Oldtimers again won the "A" championship last weekend at the Millbrook Oldtimers Tournament. On their way to the championship, Manvers defeated Millbrook 5 - 2, Peterborough Old Pros 4 - 2 and Little Britain 3 -1 in the final. To top an excellent hard working weekend the Manvers boys defeated Little Britain 4 - 2 and tied the Durham Region Police on Sunday. Congratulations. Heritage House Win 'B' Title at Manvers Heritage House Old Timers flew to downtown Manvers to whip Orono 4 - 3 for the "B" Championship. Community Service Hockey Results PRAISE FROM OSHAWA -- This is part of a letter from an Oshawa Times reader who sent in the following: "Novice Hockey, Feb. 4, Oshawa Little NHL played in the Bowmanville Hockey Tournament. It was sensational and ego-building for these young boys. Their names and numbers announced as they skated out on the ice. And how proudly they stood for O Canada. The Toros arrived in Lindsay ready to play. After falling behind 1 - 0 during the first period, they exploded to score three second and three third period goals. Greg Goode led the way with a hat-trick while Steve Smith, Troy Mutton and Shane Armstrong Armstrong added the others. Assists in the game were earned by John Paul Ducz- malewski, Shane Armstrong (two), Neil Taylor (two), Doug Lever (two), Tony Van Hoof (two) and Troy Mutton. On February 18, the Lindsay club travelled to Darlington for the return game in the round-robin. This was a complete complete reversal as the local boys showed little of the teamwork teamwork and hustle displayed the previous week. Lindsay returned returned home with a 5 -1 win. Come on guys. You all know what wins hockey games. We can still take first place with a couple of wins this coming weekend. Beating out Lange Photo by a 3 - 0 score, it was a shut-out for goalie, Ed • Strickland. In the first period, Glenn Waters scored Annis Jewellers' Jewellers' first goal, with Dave Shymr scoring one in the second period and our third goal coming from Jason Edmondson in the third period. Eric Smith and Jarret Laird assisted the first goal with Dan Walters and Glenn Waters assisting the second. Dan Walters also assisted on Annis Jewellers' final goal. The second play-off game was February 18th with Ed Strickland getting another shut-out for Annis Jewellers with a score of 13 - 0 against Lange Photo. Those scoring the goals were: Eric Smith scoring five goals, Glenn Waters with a hat-trick, Jason Edmondson with two, Ryan Becker scoring scoring one, Scott Latin with one and Mike Doyle with one goal. King Garden's Oldtimers Beat Peterborough Relics By Bob Sheridan Bob Marjerrison opened the scoring with his first of two goals mid-way through the first period. Hugh German who was re-united with George Sainsbury and Bob scored the second goal of the game. Bob Hellam then put Bowmanville ahead 3 - 0 with assists to Joe Balson and Warren Townsley. Warren then sent George Sainsbury away with a fine pass. George set up Bob Marjerrison with the best pass of the season to finish the first period scoring. Peterborough scored both of their goals in the second period from the sticks of Steve Terry and Glen Hamilton. John Gatton did some fine work to set up the Hamilton goal. Grant Wright in the Bowmanville Bowmanville net played superbly to shut down the Peterborough attack for the rest of the game. Joe Balson playing with Bob Deblois and Gerry Henderson then took over the offensive display, gaining two goals and three assists. Bob Deblois wound up the scoring with the final two goals. Gerry Henderson had four assists on these goals with George Sainsbury Sainsbury and Bob Marjerrison picking up assists on one of the Balson markers. Next weekend, we travel to Scarborough to play in the McMurtry Cup Tournament. On Friday, we attempt to clip the Canadian Pacific Old Wings. On Saturday at 8:00 a.m. we do our best to ring the cash registers of the Bancroft I.G.A., and at 12:30 we hoist anchor with the Port Colborne Old Sailors.
