Mrs. E. L. Gilbank was a recent visitor with her daughter, daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Alan McAlpine, Belleville and returned returned home with Melissa and Travis McAlpine to spend a holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Webb and family, Markham. Stella Carson, Mary Berry and Thelma Gilbank presented the devotions entitled entitled "Kindness." Plans were made to cater to the Durham Herd Improvement banquet on Wed., March 21, in the church hall. A large family gathering took place on Sunday, March 11, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ross, Leskard Rd. when a family gathering was held in honor of the recent baptism of little Stephen Michael Fitzwilliam, son of Michael and Susan Fitzwilliam. An Audio - Visual Delight The ladies of Orono United Church were invited guests of St. Saviours A.C.W. on Tuesday Tuesday evening, March 6, to witness a spectacular audiovisual audiovisual presentation. This was presented by Gordon Leek, of St. Saviours Congregation and the overall production was assembled by Gordon Leek, John Standfieid and Rev. Trevor Denny (an Anglican minister). The complete production was displayed on triple screens and was entitled "Sound and Light." The musical sounds and narration only added more beauty to the already beautiful photography. photography. The first section was entitled "Proclaim, Praise and Trust." Just to witness the unfolding beauty of the night - blooming cerus (cactus family) on the three screens, the magnificent Gods, artistry of frost on the window-panes and the glorious colors of stained glass windows would have been treat enough for all present, but there was much more to come! We watched the majestic beauty of the mountains, rivers, streams, a real thunderstorm, thunderstorm, complete with lightning and rainbows, all on three screens at a time and even night photography of Vancouver City. Artistry in postage stamps, rural churches and yards, the Indian families at work and play in the Moosenee areas, and all this set to glorious musical background, and biblical narration. This excellent excellent presentation has already been viewed by approximately approximately 10,000 people. The ladies of St. Saviours served a delicious lunch to their guests and the ladies of Orono United Church expressed expressed their sincere gratitude and pleasure. The 22ml Annual of Oshawa Presbyterial A very large crowd of U.C.W. members attended the 22nd annual meeting of Oshawa Presbyterial United Church Women, on Wednesday, Wednesday, March?, in Northminster United Church, Oshawa. An invitation was extended to the ladies to hold the 23rd Annual Meeting in Kingsview United Church next year. Kirby News Her many friends from Kirby send best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mrs. Grace Reid, following her heart surgery recently. Due to the extreme bad weather on Sunday morning, our regular church service was cancelled. Please send in your reports, news, etc. History of St. Saviours (Continued) The church was named St, Saviours and has been used by Anglicans of Orono and district district ever since. The first service service held in St, Saviours was on October 5th, 1884 with the Rev. A. B. Chafee in charge. In 1892 the Rev. A. Carswell, assistant to Canon Brent came from Newcastle to Orono. On October 28, 1934 the 50th anniversary of the church, His Grace Archbishop Owen, consecrated the church. In 1965, because of low attendance, it was decided that one service a month was sufficient, The church, however, however, remained very active, largely through the efforts of Mrs, Mary Morris, Mrs, Viola Morton and Mrs, Irene Murray, "The 3 M's".
