\ 16 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, March 14,1984 Sally Barnes to Address PC Women's Meeting Here It was announced this week that the South Central District Association of Women will hold their meeting at the Lions Centre in Bowmanville on Wed., April 4th at 6:30 p.m. And the special speaker will be well-known Sally Barnes of Kingston. Ms. Barnes has Been a controversial controversial figure for some time. A native of Napanee she worked as a reporter for newspapers newspapers in Kingston, Ottawa, Toronto and City TV. In 1975, she became press secretary for Premier Davis, the first woman to be appointed to such a position in Ontario. In 1982, she was appointed chairman of the Ontario Status of Women Council. Other honors included being appointed the first woman president of the Queen's Park Press Gallery while she was covering the Ontario Legislature Legislature for the Toronto Star. She was also awarded the Southam Fellowship for Journalists Journalists in 1973 which provided a year's study at Massey College, University of Toronto. Tickets for the April 4th dinner are available by calling Gail DeGroot at 623-6695. By Janice Seto, Editor Kathy J. LeGresley is never aggressive unless she is defending her family's honour. From March 7 to March 9, Kathy actively campaigned on behalf of Mr. LeGresley (nominated as one of the Town's Sexiest Men) for the Kidney Foundation's contest. contest. After marshalling her troops, Kathy and her canvassers canvassers collected about $100 in donations from staff and students. The money was taken to the polling booth Friday and handed to the Kidney Foundation's representative. representative. Ironically, the Grade 13 Biology class, which nominated Mr. LeGresley, was dissecting pig kidneys on Friday. Cheers to Kathy for her humanitarianism. On Wednesday, the B.H.S. Band played before the student student body in two assemblies. The music was a collection of classical and popular pieces. Probably the most popular selection was the one entitled the Movies. Mr. Tremeer's announcement that the Band would play the main theme from the Star Wars Trilogy caused murmurs in the audience. Could the Band play the Oscar-winning theme as well as the London Philharmonic Philharmonic Orchestra or the Boston Pops? After the short selections selections of Twentieth Century Fox logo, You Light Up My Life, Ice Castles, and Stripes, the Star Wars Theme burst into the auditorium. The theme was played nicely, considering considering the difficulty of the music and the need for precise timing, John Williams would have been proud. The rehearsals for "The King and I" have been postponed postponed until after the break as many students and staff leave for the warm weather. Rhonda Peterson, who plays Anna, is in Mexico. Mark Holsmith was talking about California while other grade 13 boys, Barry Yates and Tim Childs, are puttering around in Bermuda. Joining these two on the sunny isle are Mr. Ball and Mr. Brunt with their spouses. A foursome, of grade 13 boys drove down to North Carolina which is also the destination of Dorothy McFar- lane. The play's cosmopolitan director, Mr. Sheridan, and his sophisticated dame, Mrs. Sheridan are North America trotting and will touch down in Montreal and the ski slopes there. Mr. Thompson seems to be the only staff member going to Europe; lie plans to paint Paris red. After Sunday, when our Gilhan Foods Opening Soon!
