FLASHBACK -- 10 YEARS AGO -- At the Baton Twirling Competitions held in Bramalea on March 30th, Cass Wilson won 3rd in advanced solo, 4th in advanced T strut, 4th in advanced Military, Military, 5th in advanced basic strut, 2nd in best appearing majorette, 1st in advanced flag, and placed 4th in the advanced junior championship. CONGRATULATIONS -- Andrea Burnham of the Orono Figure Skating Club placed first in the Pre-Novice Ladies B Division and Catherine Mudd placed second in her flight and third overall overall in Juvenile Ladies "B" figure skating competitions competitions held in North Bay, recently. REUNION -- Camp Oconto, founded in 1924, is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year. BASKETBALL -- We are pleased to print this release re Anne Rimes, former Bowmanville High School, forwarded by her basketball coach at Laurentian University. Anne is an academic bursary winner who comes to the Lady Vees basketball team of Laurentian University, with a great deal of potential to be one of the better players at her position. Anne gained her experience in basketball with the Bowmanville Redmen, Borough of York Ladies League and the Provincial basketball team. Last year, Anne averaged between 15 and 20 points per game. According to her coach, Peter Ennis, "Against University of Toronto, which Laurentian won 56-49, Anne showed those qualities which brought her to the Voyageur program." Confidence gained in the early part of the season will surely put Anne in good stead for the home stretch. Anne intends to continue into a career in the area of Sports Medicine upon completion of her education at Laurentian University. * TROUT DERBY -- Plans are underway for the Trout Derby sponsored by Goodyear Canada, at Bowmanville Creek on April 20 - 21 - 22nd. C -- The Cowan Jr. C Eagles lost Friday in Frankford and won in Bowmanville on Sunday to make their Eastern Ontario series 3-1 for the Eagles. Fifth game was last night in Bowmanville. Result appears elsewhere. If the Eagles won it will wind up the series. If not, they go back to Frankford on Friday at 8:30. SPECIAL ATTRACTION -- The Italia hockey team from Toronto will play an exhibition game at Memorial Arena, Bowmanville, on Friday, April 6th, preceding the King Garden Oldtimer's Hockey Tournament which starts at 8 a.m. Saturday. Several former stars of the Toronto Maple Leafs, including Norm Ullman will be on the ice for the Italian team. By Buck Janack The Cowan Pontiac Eagles dropped a narrow 4 to 3 decision decision to thé Huskies in Frankford Frankford Friday night, March 23. The Eagles took a 1 to 0 lead after eight minutes of the first period. Bob Dwyer scored a power play goal from Duane Major and Pete Krukkert only to have the Huskies score with seven minutes left on the clock to tie the score at 1 at the end of the first period. The Eagles took a 2 to 1 lead at 12:59 of the second period only to have the Huskies tie the score at two with only twenty six seconds left in the period. The Eagles took a 3 to 2 lead at 2:40 of the third period, Pete Krukkert scoring from Bob Dwyer but again Frankford Frankford scored only one minute later to tie the score at three. The Huskies took a 4 to 3 lead with ten minutes left in the game and the Eagles just Bros. Pizza Cleaners in Finals could not get the equalizer. The Huskies won the game 4 to 3 and got back in the series. The Eagles now have a 2 to 1 games lead in the series. Eagles 8 Frankford 4 The Eagles have now made it a 3 to 1 games lead in this series on Sunday with Chris Michelson leading the way with three goals. The Eagles opened the scoring after eight minutes ' had been played when Michelson Michelson got his first goal, assisted by Pete Krukkert and Andy Terry. Four minutes later, Dayrell Rowe scored from Shaughn Hueston and Brian Heard. Then, with only twenty eight seconds left in the period, Chris Michelson scored his second goal, unassisted unassisted to give the Eagles a 3 to 0 lead after one period. The Eagles came out for the second period taking up where they left off in the first period. Chris Michelson completed his hat-trick, assisted by Brad Clemens and Randy Ellis at the five minute mark and boosted the Eagles' lead to 4 to 0. The Eagles ran their lead to 7 to 0 before the Huskies got on the board. First, Pete Krukkert Krukkert got a power play goal from Bob Dwyer and Duane Major, then Brian Heard scored another power play goal from Dayrell Rowe. The Eagles scored again only 19 seconds later, Ken Farrow scoring from Tim Preston and Paul Reed. The Huskies got their first goal late in the period to cut the Eagle lead to 7 to 1 but Pete Krukkert got his second goal of the night from Bob Dwyer to raise the Eagle lead to 8 to 1 after two periods. The Huskies did all the scoring scoring in the third period. Scott Dick scored three goals between between the twelve minute mark and the end of the game to make the score board read 8 to 4 at the end of the game. Again, it was a chippy game with both teams appearing at times to have something other than hockey on their minds. The Huskies visited the Eagles' nest again Tuesday, March 27 for the fifth game of the series. There should be a game in the Eagles' nest this coming Sunday, April 1 at 7:30, either the seventh game against the same Frankford Huskies or against Penetang Kings who lead their quarter final series against Alliston three games to one, with game five in Penetang Monday, March 26. On Saturday, the Toros played Aurora for the Consolation Consolation championship. The Toros took the lead early in the first and never gave it up, coasting to a 6 - 3 win. Pizza battled back to win two straight and advance advance to the finals. In the first game of the series Sam Allen and Bruce Osborne scored for Mattress Man with B. Prentice replying for Bros. In game two on March 11, Bros, left no doubt they were back with a convincing 11 - 3 win. Dave Tamblyn with the hat- trick led Bros, attack. In the third and deciding game, Bros, exploded for four third period goals en route to an 8 - 3 win and a berth in the finals. In the series between Bow. Cleaners and Hamilton's Auto, Steve West was the big gun in leading the Cleaners to a two games to one win. In game one, West had a goal and five assists in a 9 - 7 Cleaners win. Also scoring for Cleaners were Rick Hoggins, Glen Rice and Bruce Meadows with two each and singles by Murray O'Brien and Rae Pickell. A. Madden had the hat-trick for Hamilton's. Bob Howes had two, with Joe Hircock, Rick Ellis and G. Luxton scoring one each. In game two, Bob Howes scored with less than two minutes remaining, to give Hamilton's a 7 - 6 win. Luxton had four goals with singles going to H. Roswell and L. Tresask. Steve West had five and Geo. Moore one for Bow. Cleaners. In the third and deciding game of the series, the Cleaners scored six unanswered unanswered goals in the second period and held on for an 8 - 5 win. Once again Steve West led the attack, this time scoring four goals. Also scoring for the Cleaners were Gary Bradley, Bruce Meadows and Geo.
