There has been an application made for approximately 30 signs to mark historical sites. Doreen VanCamp agreed to help design and print a brochure which would be made available for visitors and residents showing historical sites and pro viding information throughout the summer and fall. The weekend program for Centennial Weekend, October 12-14 will include: a Centennial Centennial play, displays-family histories, cars and antiques, etc., contests - moustache growing, old-fashioned dress, log sawing etc., barbeque, dance, interdenominational interdenominational church service, brunch, slide show, choir show. The designation designation of the Town Hall as a Historical site is being looked into. The next meeting will be on May 16, 8 p.m. at the Town Hall. Rev. and Mrs. Merle Thompson of Regina are visiting his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Thompson Thompson and other relatives and friends. Best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Earle Fowler and Miss Cheryl Graham Graham who have moved to Oshawa. OBITUARY JAMES A. MURREE A resident of Oshawa since 1957, James A. Murree of Grenfell Street passed away at Oshawa General Hospital on Monday, March 26,1984. A carpenter by trade he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Murree, he was born March 21, 1913 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and was married there Dec. 24, 1940. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy and Gladys; and four brothers, David, Joseph, Stan and Frank. He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Smith; two daughters, Mrs. Barrie McKenna (Heather) of Oshawa, Mrs. Stephen Knight (Sally) of Little Britain; four sons, Jim of Orono, Stan of Calgary, Larry of Whitby, Paul of Oshawa; and 11 grandchildren. Mr. Muree rested at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Oshawa. Service was held in the chapel on Wednesday. Interment Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Roger Maggs officiated. Memorial donations to the Ontario Heart Foundation would be appreciated. Directed by Kathryn Coverly, the drama was enhanced by the music of the band under the baton of Mr. Stephen Powell, music director. The lovely flowers in church on Sunday, April 8,1984, were placed in memory of Mrs. Vera Millson and Mr. Raymond Godridge by the families. Confirmation will be celebrated celebrated at Tyrone Church on Sunday, April 15,1984. Good Friday Service will take place at Enniskillen Church, April 20th at 11:00 a.m. On Easter Sunday there will be a sunrise service at the millpond at 7:30 a.m,, followed followed by breakfast in the C.E. Wing. Communion will be celebrated with Rev. Tom Smith, Bowmanville, at Easter Sunday Church Service Service at 11:15 a.m, in Tyrone Church. Darryl Vaneyk and his parents met with Claude Pardo, a former cast member who is co-ordinator of Up With People casts, and with alumni of the cast and local prospective prospective cast members at University University of Toronto on Saturday, April 7th. A European cast will tour Canada this summer in such cities as Kingston, Kitchener, etc., with a professional professional quality, enthusiastic music program. Darryl is working to become part of a cast that will do the same in other countries, while living with host families, "Up With People" began in 1965 as "Sing Out '65". After an affiliation affiliation with "Moral Re- Armament" it incorporated in 1968 as Up With People. 500 students, aged 19 - 26 years travel in five international casts. They represent 23 different countries and by year's end will travel about 35,000 miles, living with some III) different families, Joan Hill, dramatist of many years and former teacher at M.J. A singing group from Ebenezer was introduced introduced by Mrs. Wilma Goyne: Eileen Down at the piano, Charlotte Hughes with guitar, Greta Down, Joan Coverly, Jean Osborne, Helen Herron, Lois Osborne, were very much enjoyed for their melody, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Gibbs attended the District meeting of the Newcastle Horticulture Society, Mr. Ken Knox of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Agriculture and Food was a guest speaker and Mrs, Lighthcart, Ontario Horticulture Association Association spoke to the group.
