We reserve the right to Congratulations to Sheila Harrison of Pontypool for being chosen out of hundreds to represent Chrysler Canada at the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans. She was one of four Canadians chosen, the other three people live in Windsor, Ontario. Sheila will be in Louisiana from May 3rd until Nov. 12th, 1984. Ten tables of euchre were played on Thursday, April 12th in the Pontypool Community Community Centre. With 70 and over scores were Alvin Olan 86, Kay Beggs 79, Bert Frape 77, Joyce Baldwin 76, Anne Northey 72, Jane Guthenberg 72, Grace Fallis 72, Dorothy Dewar 72, Mary Finney 70, Cathy MacKenzie 70 and Herman Webb 70. Bob Green of Bethany was the lucky winner of the Video Cassette Recorder draw made on April 14th at the Manvers Minor Hockey Appreciation Dance. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Paquette of Coulter Drive on the recent arrival of their baby daughter. Mrs. Leta Ford was in Powassan for a few days last week and attended the funeral of a relative. The employees at the local M.T.C. presented a wallet to Glen Webster last week. Mr. Webster has been given work at the Coboconk M.T.C. Gerald Fisk is now a patient in Princess Margaret Hospital, Hospital, Toronto. He entered last Saturday, April 14th. Jim and Norine Propp travelled by air to Calgary last Thursday. They will be visiting with their daughter, Susan, her husband Gary MacDuff and two sons. They will also be calling on relatives relatives in Saskatchewan. Bowling Banquet The ladies of the Monday Bowling League held their banquet at the Rockhaven Motor Hotel, Peterborough, on Monday, April 16th. Prior to dinner, the ladies enjoyed bowling a couple of games at Lakeview Bowl. At 12:30 p.m. they feasted heartily heartily from Rockhaven's sumptuous sumptuous smorgasbord. President Kay Youngman and Treasurer Joan Jeffries made draws for several door prizes with winners - Mary Finney, Norine Godfrey, June Bull, Darlene Muller, Marion Fisher, Lorraine Logan, Joan Jeffries, Isabelle Leon, Yvonne Fallis, Gloria Dun- ford, Evelyn Blaby, Jane Guthenberg, Frances VanWieringen, Marilyn Prest, Ruth Richardson, Vicki Campbell and Margaret Murphy. Trophies and awards were then presented. The championship championship team for 83-84 was "The Gumdrops." Members of this team were Joyce Kovack, Ruth Richardson, Betty Durham, Debbie Overy (Jessie Fisk from Sept. - Dec.), Jane Guthenberg and Yvonne Fallis. They received the Ambrose Memorial Trophy as well as individual trophies. The runners-up, "The Nougats", also were presented with individual trophies. This team's bowlers were Joan Bedford, June Bull, Nancy Mitchell, Marilyn Prest, Joan Jeffries and Diane Bailey. The "Bon Bons" - Eileen Moore, Mary Finney, Marie Finney, Gail Cameron, Doreen Benford and Gwen Gillespie won the play-offs and received the Lucille McMullen Memorial Trophy as well as individual spoons. Jane Guthenberg with an average of 193 won the High Average Trophy, and Joyce Kovack won the High Double with 466 and Diane Adams had the High Single for the year - 265. Attendance pins were presented to Eileen Moore, Mary Finney, Betty Durham, Ruth Richardson, June Bull, Dorothy Bowins and Kay Youngman. President of the league for 84-85 is Kay Youngman, Secretary, Marie Finney and Treasurer, Jane Guthenberg, with bowling commencing on Monday, Sept. 10th at 1:00 p.m. Pontypool U.C.W. The April U.C.W, meeting was held at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Lindsay in Bethany. Mrs. Lindsay very kindly gave each lady a corsage upon entry. The meeting opened with the reporting of the U.C.W. Purpose and Kay Youngman reading a poem "Easter Morn." Anne Holtby and Nettie Aiken were in charge of the Devotional which consisted of two hymns "The Strife is O'er", and "Rejoice the Lord is King", prayer, poem "In the Garden of Gethsemane" and message "Debts I'll Never Get Paid" by Anne with Nettie reading the scripture from Luke, Chap. 24 and the poem "Two Groups." Pres. Kay Youngman then presided with Yvonne Fallis, secretary, reading the minutes and treasurer, Grace Fallis, giving her report. She reported that a donation had been given to the Memorial Fund of the church in memory of the late James Willis. Wed. May 2, rally in Springville United Church - Sun. May 6, Pontypool Pontypool United Church Anniversary Anniversary Service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Donevan Brown, Hospital Hospital Chaplain from Peterborough Peterborough as guest speaker and Friday, May 11th the Annual Salad Supper in Pontypool Community Centre. Dorothy Turner, Sunday School Superintendent, stated that the Sunday School wishes to landscape grounds at the front of the church with shrubs, etc. Wilfred Richardson Richardson offered his services. Dorothy also reported that she and Carol Quirk have been attending a Sunday School teacher workshop in Peterborough. Peterborough. In the fall the Ponty- . pool Sunday School will be changing its curriculum and the local U.C.W. will donate towards expenses of materials required. Plans were made for provisions provisions for salad supper with admission prices set at $5.00 for adults, $2.00 for ages 12 and under and preschoolers free. Donations of jello, salads and pastries will be very much appreciated. Following closing prayer and Benediction, Mrs. Lindsay served „a delicious lunch of fresh fruit, cake, tea and coffee. Next meeting is planned for May 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Kay Youngman. On Monday evening, April 16th, the Annual Meeting of the Manvers Township Historical Historical Society was held at 7:30 p.m. in the Bethany Town Hall. President Moira Lawrence chaired the meeting with Secretary, Kathleen Morton reading minutes of previous meeting and Treasurer Treasurer Nellie Michelle giving her report. Various items of interest are on the agenda for celebrating Canada's Bicentennial Year. The first will be on Victoria Day, May 21st, at the Bethany Athletic Association's Annual Holiday celebration. There will be a special flag-raising ceremony with M.P. Allan Lawrence, M.P.P. John Bakins and Reeve George Neals taking part. At the Manvers Art and Crafts Show and Sale on June 2nd and 3rd, the society will have two booths. A committee is trying to negotiate plans for a steam train to visit the area later this year and take passengers for a short trip. Barry Pickering took over for the election of officers for the coming year. Mrs. Kane of the Scugog Shores Historical Museum was introduced and gave a very informative and amusing account of the museum's formation and its progress since.
