Are you ready to slip into those new spring fashions? This year, fashion has swung into a spectrum of beautiful pastel shades. There are lovely fresh colours for both the male and female wardrobe. Is there some particular style, or colour you would like to try, but wish you were a few pounds slimmer? TOPS is here for you. Whether you are a pre-teen, teen, adult (male or female), you can become a TOPS member. There are several TOPS Clubs in our area. TOPS No. ON870, Bowmanville, wishes to extend an invitation to those who desire to shed unwanted weight, to come out and meet us. We meet on Thursday evenings at the. Lions Centre, on Beech Ave. Weigh-ins are 6:30 p.m. till 7:15 p.m., with the meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. If you have the will to lose, we'll be right there to assist you, and inspire you. TOPS No. ON870 held their Awards Night on March 29th. All members who had worked at various tasks to keep the club in running order throughout throughout the year were recognized, with thanks, and a small token of appreciation. Christine Jones was presented with her 10 year KOPS gift, and Jean Laurion with her five year KOPS gift. Jean Danilko and Gail Berry tied for the title of Miss Inspiration, and Gail also took the honour of the title of Miss Personality. The new executive were sworn in. They are as follows: Jean Danilko - leader, Gail Berry - Co-leader, Joan Mairs - secretary, Cecile Yurko - treasurer, Joan Brock - weight recorder, and Rose Anger - ass't. weight recorder. A special thank you goes out to those who made the evening really enjoyable. Joyce Cowan won the TOPS star chart contest contest and Joan Mairs the KOPS. Betty Piper's team put on the entertainment, which was a comical fashion show and expressions. The group held a spring Craft and Bake Sale, at the Bowmanville Mall on April 13th. It was quite successful in raising funds for P.R.O. This year P.R.O. (Provincial (Provincial Recognition Days) are being held in Sarnia and several members from NO. ON870 are attending. This event takes place from May 31st till June 2nd. The biggest and most inspirational event to take place each year for TOPS is IRD (International Recognition Days). This event is being held in Honolulu, Hawaii this year. When I mentioned at the start of this write up male members are welcome in TOPS, that is not to be taken lightly. Males have as much of a problem with obesity as females, and can feel just as heartbroken over it. By January of 1963 there were nine all-male TOPS chapters on record. The first national King for TOPS was crowned in May 1958. National then led to international kings as TOPS grew. TOPS started in the U.S. and spread to Canada and various other countries of the world. Men are becoming recognized recognized more and more, as TOPS grows. We have a young male member now (teen), who is quite comfortable in our group. Men with a weight problem should give TOPS some serious thought. Various TOPS groups have had husband husband and wife pairs, also sons and brothers of members join. When a male member joins a club it adds inspiration to the group, just because of the fact that he has, as the expression goes, "the guts" to join a predominantely female group. TOPS does just what "its name implies, Take Off Pounds Sensibly. We have no magic formula, just plain common sense and your will power. Not every person is destined to be slim, trim and in perfect running order, we're all built differently. If the weight loss you want to achieve be great or small, it will lead to a healthier, happier you, both mentally, and physically. Accept our invitation and come out to a meeting whether it be TOPS No. ON870 Bowmanville, or another TOPS Club. Here is a thought which might help you, "eat wise and you will drop a size."
