By Peter Parrott V If I had been writing this column before the Easter weekend rather than after, I'd be sounding sounding a lot like the Grinch who stole Easter. By last Thursday, I was beginning to think that the Easter represented represented a noble occasion occasion turned into a three-ring circus of Easter Bunnies, Easter Candies, and Easter Cards. But that was last week. Having watched our 17-month-old toddle toddle through Easter, I can see why we have invented invented things like chocolate bunnies, chocolate eggs and •furry little toy birds. It started Thursday night when Stephanie insisted on taking her chocolate Easterrabbit to bed with her, package package and all. It joined the usual herd of stuffed stuffed teddy bears, stuffed dog,, and dolls already in the crib. Cautious parents waited until she was asleep asleep before rescuing the rabbit before it had a chance to melt over- . night. It seems that at 17 months, you don't know that a chocolate rabbit is edible and tend to just carry it around like a toy. It took her until Easter morning to dis cover that chocolate rabbits can be extracted extracted from their package. package. Then there was the great Easter egg hunt in Port Hope on Saturday morning. It was a good chance to mix a photo assignment with an outing. outing. Mind you, Monkey Mountain really seems like a mountain after you've hopped down the bunny trail carrying both a 24-pound baby and a camera. Some kind person gave Stephanie her own Easter egg during the hunt. She assumed it was a ball and wanted to hang on to for the rest of the day. No doubt it would have joined the menagerie in the crib that night if foresight hadn't led us to take it away before evening. Then, there were the visits with relatives on Friday and Saturday. There was a trip to the church on Sunday where she looked in wide-eyed wonder at stained glass and easier easier lillies which were pronounced to be "pretty". I know that Easter has been subjected to the flotsam and jetsam of commercialization. But all of this is our way of adding color, drama, and excitement to the season. Easter is, after all, a season which celebrates celebrates life. And what can be more like Easter than seeing a new life enjoying and exploring a new world in the spring. Eldad U.C.W. The hostess for the April meeting of Eldad United' Church Women was Mrs. Pat Best. President, Mrs. Joyce Taylor opened the meeting with a verse suitable to the approaching season. Mrs. Dorothy Pascoe conducted conducted a Bible Study in connection connection with the Lenten Season. Many thoughts and interpretations of the passages were shared. The study portion of our meeting concluded with the finding of the Last Seven Sayings of Jesus on the Cross. Mrs. Bernice Watson continued continued the theme with the presentation of a worship service. Our secretary Mrs. Dorothy Snowden read the minutes of our previous meeting and gave a treasurer's report. Various items of business were discussed and decisions made. The needs of Destiny Manor were pointed out to us and it was noted that we should be concerned with this very worthwhile project. Our president closed the meeting with a poem and a time of fellowship, over lunch, was enjoyed.
