He had been operated on Monday, April 16th. We all hope that Ab now will have better health. Over Easter weekend some local citizens were in Nashville Nashville for the "Grand Old Opry." Grace Fallis, Dorothy and Mervin Bowins and Paul Mucha travelled by bus while Mary Morrison accompanied Ruby Malley, Earl and Nancy Malley and baby daughter, all of Bowmanville, by car. They report a very damp weekend. At the euchre party last Thursday evening, Kay Youngman with 75 and Keith Dewar with 64 were the winners. Next card party in the Pontypool Community Centre is Thursday, May 10th.. Don't forget the Pontypool Keenagers' Auction Sale that is planned for this coming Saturday, May 5th at l : 30 p.m. Three Manvers hockey teams were in Buffalo, participating participating in tournaments, over the holiday weekend. Many players, parents and friends went from the Pontypool community. We understand that the Manvers Midgets did exceptionally well, making it to the championship game and losing it by a very narrow margin. A write-up is to appear elsewhere. Diane Porter was hostess for a bridal shower for Shelley Stephens when many members of the Hamilton family were present. Shelley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Stephens of Lindsay, is to wed Harvey Hamilton, son of Mrs. Barbara Hamilton of Lindsay, on May 26th in Queen Street United Church, Lindsay. On Saturday night many male friends of Ron Finney honoured the groom-to-be with a stag. Ron's wedding to Lorraine Logan, daughter of Murray and Helen Logan is to take place on Saturday, May 5th, in Peterborough. Lorraine has also been the guest of honour at several showers. • Mrs. Wayne McMahon held a shower for Beverley Mulligan, Mulligan, whose wedding to Tim . McKee is planned for Saturday, Saturday, June 16th. Bev was the recipient of many beautiful gifts from her neighbours and friends. Wayne Hunt expects to be back on duty this week as Pontypool's postmaster. He has been absent for the past month with back problems. Susan Pleadwell of Oshawa was a Friday visitor with Toby Arbeau. Sympathy is extended to the family of the late William (Bill) Mitchell who passed away Sunday in an Oshawa nursing home. The late Mr. Mitchell was in his 90th year. He was a farmer for many years on the 5th line. The funeral service is to be held from' the Mackey Funeral Home on Tuesday with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Lindsay. He is survived by a daughter, Wilma, sons, Norman and Maurice and brothers, Howard and Alvin, as well as several grandchildren. grandchildren. Gel well wishes are sent to Roy Gaynor, a patient in Civic Hospital, Peterborough. Nancy Anglers and her two sons from Hay River, N.W.T. are here for three weeks with her parents, Gerald and Jessie Fisk. Gerald is currently taking treatments in Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto. Margaret Wright left for Saskatchewan last Wednesday Wednesday to attend the wedding of a relative. She will be gone for two weeks. Several from Pontypool were present at an M.T.C. dance held in the Orono Community Community Centre last Friday night. Music was provided by the group "Country Bred." See Coming Events for Anniversary Service this Sunday and Ham and Salad Supper, May 11th. Ballyduff Presbyterian Church was filled to capacity at Easter Sunday's 2:00 p.m. service. All attending were overwhelmed with the remodelled remodelled interior of the church. Rev. Fred Swann gave a very appropriate Easter message. He was capably assisted in the service by his daughter and her friend who are both studying for the ministry. Jeanne McMahon was the organist at the electric electric organ kindly donated by Bill and Joyce Allen for the special occasion. Pontypool United Church also had an extremely good attendance at its Easter service service when Melissa Dunford was confirmed by Rev. Lindsay. During the children's storytime they showed how ugly, drab things can be made beautiful. A rough, wooden cross had its crown of thorns and shroud removed and the girls and boys of the Sunday School decorated it with small crosses that they had made from cardboard and brightly coloured crepe paper. On Sunday, April 29th, Denise Brown, unable to be present at the previous Sunday's service, was confirmed confirmed by Rev. Lindsay with Keith and Dorothy Dewar, her sponsors. Next Sunday, May 6th, is the 66th Anniversary of Pontypool United Church with service at 11:00 a.m. Guest speaker is Rev. Donovan Brown. There will be no Sunday School, but tiny ones will be looked after during the service. Medicine Chief Appointed at Local Hospital Memorial Hospital has announced the appointment appointment of a new chief of medical medical staff. Dr. H. Jethalal, a Bowmanville Bowmanville internist, is the new chief of staff. He is successor successor to Dr. A.B. Sylvester who has been serving as head of the medical staff for the past three years.
