Collage Quintet Entertains at St. PauVs Concert St. Paul's United Church is sponsoring three concerts this year in celebration celebration of its 150th anniversary. On Wednesday, April 18, the first in the series was held at Bowmanville High School Auditorium. A string quintet known as Collage provided a diversified program which included not only traditional arrangements for string quartet but also a good collection of jazz and popular music. The Toronto-based group which performs music ranging from Bach to the Beatles has been performing together for the past year. During the 1982-83 season he appeared as guest soloist with the Kingston Symphony, the Orford String Quartet and the York Winds. He has played a recital for the Shaw Festival. When he played for a Youth and Music Cushion Concert, he was the first Canadian pianist to perform a solo recital recital on the stage of Roy Thomson Thomson Hall. The following Sunday, May 13 the "Horseless Carriage Men" Barbershop Chorus from Oshawa will put on a concert at Newcastle Community Community Hall at 7:30 p.m. Rush seats are available for both these concerts at $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. They go on sale at7:20 p.m., 10 minutes before the concert begins. These two concerts bring the current series to a close. The Concert Series Organization Organization wishes to thank the local newspapers, merchants, service service clubs, district Guides and individuals for making this first season so encouraging. Financially, the series has broken even. At these two concerts, renewal renewal subscriptions for the next season will be offered. Youth and Music Canada presents presents four concerts altogether. In the fall, a piano and violin duo will be performing on October 21 and the Bowkun Trio (flute, violincello and piano) on November 18. On March 10 next spring Lyra- cord will put on a concert. This is a harp and voice combination. combination. On April 28 a male vocal quintet from Sweden, on exchange exchange through Jeunesses Musicale, will perform. An extra concert will be considered if subscriptions sell well and finances permit. Harry Locke, chairman of Memorial Hospital's board of directors, and Richard Elston, executive director of the hospital, review drawings of renovation renovation and construction at Memorial Hospital. The plans show the changes which will be made as a result of the $5.4 million program to upgrade hospital facilities. Mr. Elston said last week that detailed design is now underway and he estimated estimated that construction could begin as early as one year from now if the planning proceeds as quickly as is hoped.
