Anglican News Thirty-four walkers from St. George's, Newcastle, and St. Saviours, Orono, took part in a walk for Outreach on Saturday, May 12. In keeping with the bicentennial anniversary anniversary celebrations, they toured historic sites in Newcastle and Newcastle harbour area. Good weather made it an enjoyable walk. A hearty lunch with Win and Bette Collier in the kitchen was enjoyed. Pippa Schmiegelow of St. George's and Sandra Anderson of St. Saviour's were conveners. Thanks are given to the four mentioned and to other volunteers volunteers at checkpoints and to those who made sandwiches. At the 9:45 Service at St. Saviour's, Orono, Courtney Jane Fullerton and at the 11 a.m. Service in St. George's, Chad Henry Barchard and Katie Margaret Packer, were baptized. Rev. Allan Haldenby spoke on the church responsibility responsibility of Christian parents and urged support for mothers in the widening part that they play in everyday life. Next Sunday, May 20, Bishop Desmond Hunt will be at St. George's at eleven o'clock for confirmations. United Church News On Sunday, May 13, 1984, members of the United Church Women conducted the service at Newcastle United Church. Mrs. Sheila Stiles led the service and Mrs. Shirley Coyle told the children's story. President Marilyn Martin introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Marilyn Schamcrhorn of St. Paul's Church, Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Mrs. Schamerhorn's sermon, Living In the Shadow, was a very thought-provoking talk on fear. The U.C.W. choir sang the anthem, The Lord's My Shepherd. In the May edition of the United Church Observer, children's poems were printed. These lines were copied from Jennie-Lynn Brunton's poem "God tries to make everything fair - We need more of God's kind of love." We congratulate Murray Jose on his first prize poem.
