L--.-{ Molson Products to Come in Cans Famous Lowenbrau Beer Now Available in Canada Molson Ontario Breweries Limited announces that it will commence packaging its more popular brands of beer in the 355 ml all aluminum can. This new container will be available to the Ontario market for the first time on May 18. This introduction will represent represent a conversion from the 341 ml steel can (with aluminum top) to the slightly larger 355 ml all aluminum can. The 355 ml volume is an internationally internationally accepted standard measure and corresponds with the U.S. measure of 12 fl. oz. This move will assist Molson in exporting cans to the United States, where over 60 percent of the package market is in cans - 98 percent of which are made from all aluminum. Beyond the increased export potential, David A. Barbour, President of Molson Ontario Breweries Limited, says that this move by Molson was prompted by two other considerations. considerations. "Recycling is going to be a reality in the future and the aluminum can is fully and practically recyclable. recyclable. Recycling is not only resource efficient, but it will give rise to new job-creating recycling ventures in Ontario," said Mr. Barbour. "The move to the aluminum can will also result in certain economies in terms of production production costs and lighter packages resulting in distribution distribution savings," said Mr. Barbour. "These savings will be passed on to the consumer in the form of lower can prices." A six-pack of 355 ml aluminum cans of Molson Export, Golden, Canadian and Light will cost the consumer $4.45, plus a deposit of 5 cents a can, compared to the current current price of $4.90 for a six- pack in the 341 ml steel can. A new container has been designed designed to accommodate 12 cans which can be stored upright upright in the refrigerator and will dispense one can at a time. The price for this new 12 can package will be $8.60, plus deposit. The move is the third major marketing initiative in Ontario by Molson in the past month. Molson Canadian, Golden, Light and Brador were converted to the tall bottle in April. Earlier this month, Molson also announced announced that it would be brewing Lowenbrau at its Barrie Brewery, under licence from Lowenbrau in Munich, Germany. Lowenbrau will also be made available in the new 355 ml aluminum can by early June. WE RE MORE THAN A ^ NICE PLACE TO EAT Every Thursday is Family Steak Night Our special for two... 8-OZ. Barbour, President of Molson Ontario Breweries Limited, said that not only will the world renowned renowned beer be available through Brewer's Retail outlets and licenced establishments, it will be for sale at lower prices than before. Previously, Lowenbrau could be purchased in Canada only through liquor stores or licencees as an import, at a higher cost. Mr. Barbour remarked that he felt the agreement between the two breweries is very appropriate, since it represents represents an association between the oldest independent brewery in North America and one of the oldest in the world. "John Molson founded the brewery which carries his name almost two centuries ago and it was in 1383 - over 600 years ago in Munich, Germany, that the first keg of Lowenbrau was tapped," Mr. Barbour said.
