The Junior Agriculturalist Program is again offering youths with a non-farm background the opportunity to live and learn in rural Ontario for the period of June 25 to August 24. The Program is run by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food and has been in operation since 1971. The basic aims of the Junior Agriculturalist Program are to offer youths 16 to 18 years of age practical farm knowledge, and to develop within the youths an appreciation of agriculture and rural life. The program also serves the Ontario farmer by providing a subsidized labour source. Students are paid a training allowance of eighteen dollars a day of which the host farmer pays eight dollars a day. Around 200 • urban youths will be working and living on farms province-wide in conjunction with the Junior Agriculturalist Program. News from 4H Club The first meeting of the 4-H Livestock Evaluation Club was held at the Ag. office in Bowmanville at 8:00 on April 30,1984. The meeting began with the construction of the executive. They are as follows: President: Lynn McLaughlin, Vice President: Shelley Holliday, Secretary: Lynn Bazarin, The Press: Paul Green. A discussion of the year's topics was then covered. This year we will be evaluating dairy, beef, swine, sheep, horses and others. The exhibit team was also made up and this year's lucky members are Brian Van Camp, Jay Van Camp, Sharon Barkey, and Mike Carter. A trip to the Quality Meat Packers was discussed. The Beef and Swine Club may also be attending this trip. Further news will be available later.
