Students at the Lord Elgin School, in Bowmanville, hoped to raise between $750 and $1,000 in a skipping marathon held Thursday, May 10, and Tuesday, May 8, in the school gym. The marathon is part of the Jump Rope for Heart program which raises funds for the Ontario Heart Foundation, The Ontario Physical and Health Education Association, and individual schools. Students Students arranged sponsors for the skipping marathon. The Heart Foundation receives 90 per cent of the funds, with the remainder divided between the Waverly School in 15. The giant Wimpey construction construction firm has purchased Cobourg's Harnden and King Construction Ltd. for an undisclosed undisclosed amount. Harnden and King has been a well known name in road construction construction in the area for a good number of years. The deal was closed on May 8th. David and Nancy Hadden, owners of Batterwood, have been battling for four years to build a Baha'i guesthouse on their properly in Welcome to accommodate 85 guests. The property was formerly owned by Vincent Massey. An Ontario Municipal Board ruling allowing the Haddens to proceed with the building was appealed by local residents to the Ontario Cabinet but the cabinet upheld the OMB decision decision allowing the Hadden's to build the guest house on their estate property.
