Yelverton Yard Sale Reasonably YELVERTON NEWS (Intended for last week) The yard sale put on by the Janetville - Yelverton parsonage committee and interested contributors was reasonably successful in raising money towards insulating the Janetville parsonage. Special thanks from the community to those few people who devoted so much time and energy to the cause. On Saturday evening, Eileen and Howard Malcolm were honoured by their family - Candice Malcolm, Brenda and Terry Malcolm and family on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary (May 20th). The Malcolm's were taken by surprise on arriving home around 9 p.m. to find some 80 well wishers present at their home welcoming them and extending congratulations and best wishes. Terry Malcolm was M.C. for the occasion and the bride and groom of yesteryear were then subjected to a semi-poetic address concocted for the occasion and read by Harvey Malcolm. Eileen and Howard each spoke briefly, expressing their appreciation to those who were present and for a variety of gifts they received. The balance of the evening was spent socializing and listening or dancing to music supplied by Lana Malcolm. Glen Warburton and Murray Malcolm. Among the many guests present was Mrs. Heather (Philp) Warnman of Cobourg and her husband; Heather was the little flower girl at the wedding 40 years ago. Mr. Murray Malcolm was also the best man on that occasion. Eileen and Howard have the distinction of being the first bride and groom to ever have been married in Yelverton United Church, to the best of anyone's knowledge. Guests were present from Toronto, Cobourg, Mitchell's Corners, Port Perry, Bowmanville, Orono, Lindsay, Omemee, Barrie, as well adjacent communities. The best wishes of the community are extended to Eileen and Howard for many more happy years together. Congratulations too, to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hurtig who quietly observed their 45th wedding anniversary on the same date. Pleased to see Joe home from the hospital and feeling much better. Mr. Allan Howe returned home this week from spending a Week on business in Edmonton, Alta, and also called on his son and daughter-in-law while there. Allan reports that hockey fever was really rampant in Edmonton and apparently their enthusiasm rubbed off on their team. Most Canadians were happy to see the Stanley Cup return to Canada and Edmonton on Saturday evening. We're pleased to have Mr. Belford Pankc of Manotick (outside Ottawa) drop in at Maiconia for a short visit this way after spending a couple of days with his mother and sisters and brother in Woodbridgearea. Miss Tara Malcolm was doubly honoured this week on the occasion of lier birthday. On Saturday afternoon a number of her small friends were present for a birthday party and on Sunday a birthday dinner with all the family, including Mr, and Mrs, Alan Gundry of Barrie who were weekend guests, Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs, Ted Speneeloy's son Jim Spencelcy whose firm Flcxahoppcr Plasters of Successful Lethbridge, Alta, is one of 28 firms that have been invited by the Canadian International Development Agency (better known as C.I.M.A.) to participate in a trade fair in Thailand with the aim of increasing commercial activity between the two nations. Three sectors will be represented - agriculture, light manufacturing and telecommunication. This trade fair is taking place this week in Bangkok. Jim's firm manufactures a range of agricultural and chemical sprayer tanks. Congratulations are extended to Shari Cook and Bob Carrol who were married in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lindsay on Saturday with the wedding dance in the Armouries in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Marti Malcolm, Miss Mona Malcolm and Ronnie Sharman attended some of the functions. •Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wilson spent several days this week with their daughter and family - Mr. and Mrs. Jim Beggs and family in Port Elgin. Mr. Clifford Sedman of Oshawa was a Sunday visitor with Mr. and Mrs. Oram Moore and family. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcolm are scheduled to spend several days in Ottawa this week where Howard is attending a series of meetings. Miss Mona Malcolm is scheduled to start her summer job with the Royal Bank in Scarborough on Tuesday of 1 this week. On Sunday evening, there was a gathering of some 35 men, women and children at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gray on the Gray line for the annual social evening held on the occasion of Bill's birthday - (his 29th - give or take a little). Highlight of the evening was the annual fireworks display with hot dogs and popcorn for the children. This has become an annual event held each year on the Victoria weekend holiday. As per usual a good time was enjoyed by all. Happy Birthday Bill.
