1 1 I 8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, May 30,1984 Nestleton - Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Ontario South District Women's Institute 85th Annual Meeting A very fine District Annual of Ontario South Women's Institutes was heid in Raglan United Church, Thursday May 23 with the Shirley Branch "hosting" the day long meeting. President President Mrs. Hazel Coates extended a cordial welcome to the large number of delegates from the ten Branches throughout the District. The District President Mrs. Clara Warren brought the meeting to order with the singing of the W.I. Ode and repeating repeating the Mary Stewart Collect in unison. Home Economist, Mrs. Barb Dysguk presented presented a detailed account of 4-H Club work and explained what is coming up in the future re- courses, workshops, etc. Highlighting Highlighting the morning session were the excellent excellent committee convenors convenors reports. They were very worthwhile - much planning had been done by Branches during the past year. The Board Director Mrs. Bruce Snider gave a fine resume of Board proceedings proceedings covering the Province over the year and added "a bit of humour" as she moved along. Sec'y-Treas. Mrs. D. Andrews, District District delegate to the Officers Conference at Waterloo, briefed delegates delegates with a concise, interesting summary of this educational event. A very fitting memorial memorial service was conducted conducted by Mrs. Joyce Kelly - Shirley Br. Officers were installed by the Board Director. Pertinent Pertinent business items: 1. A District bus has been chartered for June 4, to the Erland Lee Home leaving Port Perry Plaza at 8:15 a.m. - returning home approx, at 8:30 p.m. A box lunch to be taken for the noon hour; 2. The County picnic will be held at Elgin Park, Uxbridge, July 10, Ontario South in charge of games; 3. A District Bicentennial Tea and Bake Sale to be held in the Port Perry Municipal Hall on Sept. 11, 2-4 p.m. Ladies to wear old fashioned dresses. Branches are asked to contribute baking baking - the tea is in charge of the District; 4. Whitby Whitby will host the next District Annual. A tasty luncheon was served by the Raglan U.C.W. and enjoyed by all. Mrs. Mabel Cawker expressed appreciation to the retiring Board Director Mrs. Snider - also to the retiring District President Mrs. Clara Warren for dedicated dedicated service the past three years. Activities Enjoyed Roy and Doris Nottingham Nottingham of Caesarea, had a pleasurable bus trip to Ottawa on Thursday Thursday last sponsored by the Port Perry Senior citizens. They had a tour of the city taking in the Parliament Buildings and other points of interest. The tulips were beautiful and at their best. They stayed overnight overnight at a Motel, arriving arriving home on Friday - a very nice outing! Calvin and Yvonne Holland, Chad and Craig, Bowmanvillc, were Monday guests at the Grahame Fish home at Nestleton. Norm and Bernice Mairs of Nestleton were in Ottawa for a few days this past week. While Norm attended sessions at the Skyline Hotel for the Committee of Adjustment Adjustment - representing the Township of Scugog along with committee members from other Townships - Bernice enjoyed the planned tours for the ladies taking in the city of Ottawa, Lanark County, Kitten Mills, a Shoe factory, and a scenic, cruise down the Ottawa River. Their stay at the Skyline Hotel was pleasant pleasant - an interesting few days returning home on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. (Bob,and Ruby) Foul- ste, of England, arrived on Saturday last to spend some time with their daughter, Pat and Derrick Wilcox of Caesarea. Caesarea. They expect to be here until September. Bob and Ruby are 84 years old and will celebrate celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in June in Canada. Warmest wishes to them for a fine visit and we'll hear more about their anniversary anniversary at a later date. Nestleton United Church Sunday School Anniversary A Success On a lovely Sunday morning, May 27, with a good attendance and many visitors welcomed, welcomed, the S. School Anniversary went off like clockwork with Superintendent Robt. Mairs conducting the service in his own inimitable style. The service opened with the Processional Hymn "He's Got The Whole World" with Carol Mairs at the piano. The S. School choir directed by Arlene Davis and Claire MacKenzie was very good indeed - many lively, harmonious numbers were sung. A good choice of hymns were selected. Guest speaker, Mr. Charles Rainey of Lindsay, Lindsay, who is employed by the Newcastle Board of Education, presented a fine message to the young folk, leaving many thoughts and stories to take home. Scripture was taken from John 10: 1-18. We would commend our S. School Superintendent Superintendent Robt Mairs, pianist Carol Mairs, and the hard working teachers who have consistently consistently year after year presented an excellent anniversary service - as well as devoting much time and effort each Sunday - thus a successful successful year. The annual picnic (combined Church and S. School) will be held on June 17, at the home of Norm and Bernice Mairs. An outdoor Church service at 11:15 a.m, followed by a pot luck dinner. Games and races after - as well as promotion certificates and attendance awards for the children. Take along your own plates and utensils, lawn chairs, favourite food and your sense of fun.
