Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hoyland, who were married Saturday, June 23, 1984 in Orono United Church. The bride is the former former Muriel Annette Stevenson, Stevenson, daughter of Mrs. Arlene Stevenson, Orono and John Stevenson, Hampton. Rev. Wayne Wright officiated, and the reception was held in Blackstock Community Centre. Mrs. Isabelle Thompson, Toronto spent the weekend in Orono, visiting her niece, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Atkins, and attended the Decoration Day programs on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Stapleton were last Tuesday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Burley, Newcastle. Newcastle. Mrs. Verna Chamberlain, Oshawa, and Mrs. Roy Maynard, Bowmanville were Sunday luncheon guests of Mrs. Ona Miller and attended Orono Decoration Day. Mrs. Hartwell Lowery, Kirby and Mrs. Ona Miller attended the Strawberry Supper, in Garden Hill, last Friday evening and reported an excellent supper, and 500 persons were in attendance. A very large attendance at the Orono Cemetery on Sunday, June 24th for the annual Decoration Day. Congratulations Congratulations to Mr. Dean Cox on an excellent job of caretaking. caretaking. Farewell Presentation A very large crowd of members and adherents of Orono United Church gathered gathered downstairs in the main hall, following regular Sunday morning service, to enjoy a delicious buffet luncheon and to bid farewell to Wayne and Betty Wright. Rev. and Mrs. Wright leave this week for their new home in Severn Bridge. They will have a two point charge - (Washago - Atherby.) Mr. Derek Barnett welcomed welcomed everyone and called on Isabelle Challice to say grace before the luncheon. Joyce Gray pinned on a Joyce Gray pinned a lovely corsage on Betty and a boutonniere boutonniere on Wayne, and the honoured guests cut the very attractive cake, that Joan Hollingsworth made and decorated. I. Challice then read several poems and finally the poem "God Bless" to Wayne and Betty, to express express our sincere good wishes to them before they leave. Norman Groot presented them with a lovely occasional chair and Stella Carson a well- filled purse from the congregation, congregation, Wayne and Betty both expressed their thanks and said they would always remember remember their Orono friends. Prior to the presentation Mr. Jim Brownlee called on the members of session to come forward and have "Laying on of Hands" on Wayne and Betty. Following the presentation Mr. Brownlee gave the closing prayer, and Don Staples led everyone in singing "For they are Jolly Good Fellows." Challice. •IT Club Meeting A good crowd of 60 members and visitors enjoyed a tasty and delicious barbecue on Thursday, June 21 at the Durham Sr. Citizens hall. The barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers hamburgers were of course done outside and the attractive buffet of salads etc., was in the hall. Beautiful birthday cake and ice cream for dessert and the following names with June birthdays, Jennie Bowins, David Skerratt, Ona Miller, Eileen Billings, Vertel Wilson, Hazel McNair, Bette Fraser, Margaret Sutherland and Fred Yeo. A very enjoyable musical evening was provided by Bonnie Cowle, Ruth Cowle and Jean Lepine, as a ladies trio. An added attraction was provided by the "Salt Creek Boys", consisting of Joe Bothwell, Chuck Kilpatrick and Rick Hasper, all with guitars and singing, an enjoyable enjoyable evening of music and much appreciated by all present. The Orono Jr. Gardeners wish to thank all their customers for again making their flower day sale such an outstanding success. The sale was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Scott and we filled 59 baskets of flowers for the Decoration Day. Misses Sarah and Rachel Bailey are spending holidays with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lome Bowins. Mrs. Les Alldread, Oshawa and Mr. and Mrs. E. Stapleton enjoyed a trip to the Toronto Zoo last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Rainey, Lindsay were Sunday visitors to Orono and he visited his brother, Mr. Evan Rainey and she visited her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Lome Bowins. Mrs. Marjorie Van Horne, Whitby; Mr. and Mrs. Watson Winfield, Georgetown; Mr. Charles Miller, Orono; all visited Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tamblyn at their cottage, Pearsons Landing. Obituary MARGARET WINNIFRED ALLIN Miss Margaret Winnifred Allin, passed away at her home, 68 King St. E., Bowmanville, Bowmanville, on Saturday, June 16th, 1984. Margaret was born and lived in Bowmanville all her life with her parents, Harry and Birdie (Dilling) Allin, until their death. Secretary to the Administrator Administrator of the Ontario Training Schoool for Boys, for a number number of years, she later held the position of Bursar. She took a personal interest in the boys adjustment. Her greatest reward came when many of the boys came back to tell her how she had helped them. Some were convinced that she was somewhat responsible responsible for whatever success they had obtained in the outside world. Inquiries would show that many of the boys had gone on to make a good name for themselves in later years. Music played a big part in Margaret's life. She participated participated in school concerts as a young person, and later was a very active member of Trinity United Church choir. She was a member of the finance committee and church council. council. A gold medal was awarded Margaret in the Mezzo- soprano class in the Music Festival at the Toronto Conservatory Conservatory of Music in 1934. After retiring from The Ont. Training School for Boys, Margaret represented Dominion Dominion Securities and Victoria and Grey Trust Co. as their area representative. Surviving are three sisters Mrs. J. C. Snowe, Gertrude, of Peterborough, Mrs. W. B. Miller, Una, Bowmanville, Mrs. M. Proctor, Marion, Hrockville, Ont., a brother Jack Allin of Cobourg, three nieces, two nephews, two groat nieces, two great nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Lome and Bill Allin and her parents. Funeral services were held on Monday, from the Morris Funeral Chapel, Division St. The Rev. John Peters officiated officiated with funeral music by Mrs. J, Albert Cole. Tire Pallbearers, Mauriee "Pat" Proctor, Hrockville, Lindsay Proctor, nephew, Toronto, .John Allin, nephew, Trenton, Roy Anger, liow- immvillc. Many floral tributes from friends and associates adorned the chapel and a large number of gills to charities charities were received. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery.
