The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, July 4,1984 5 Lions Club Elects New Slate of Officers Paul Rosseau and Chris Stadlcmann of Orono, have been accepted at Trinity College School, Port Hope, this September. The Darlington Information Centre in Newcastle, off Highway 401 on Lake Ontario, is open seven days a week from now until Labor Day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Exhibits, film and video presentations, presentations, or models illustrating illustrating Ontario's methods of producing producing and delivering electricity electricity are provided free at the centre. Exact dates have not been set yet, but probably they will be Tuesday, July 24 and Wednesday, Wednesday, July 25, it was learned this weekend when a Tall Ships official visited Cobourg harbor. Over the next few months, the Oshawa Kinsmen Club will be selling 2,500 $100 tickets with the grand prize being a $114,000 home located in the Rose Garden subdivision off Thornton Rd. in Oshawa. Prior to the Dec. 16 draw date, ten early bird prizes of $1,000 will also be given away. Polka Dot Door Coming to Library Polka Dot Door Live, adapted from the popular TV Ontario children's television series, will be performing free of charge at Bowmanville Library on Friday, July 13, from 3:00-4:00 p.m., in a brand new bilingual show featuring Marigold, Humpty, Dumpty, Bear, Minou, and of course Polkaroo. Members of the Bowmanville Lions Club and their spouses applauded the work of President Pat King last Monday night during the inauguration of a new executive. Mr. King served as president of their organization during 1983-84 and he was awarded this past president's plaque by incoming president president Klaas Degroot during the June 25th meeting. Mr. Degroot was among the incoming directors and executive who took on their new responsibilities at the inaugural meeting. Pat King joins the executive as immediate past president. Solina Women's Institute Tours Landscaping Centre On June 13, Solina W.I. ladies met at the Kamstra Landscaping Centre, on Taunton Taunton Road. After a conducted tour, Mr. J. Kamstra answered answered the many questions the ladies asked. Mrs. Anita Jensen thanked our hosts for their hospitality. The ladies reassembled at the Community Hall. President President Mrs. Blaikie Rowsell opened the meeting with the Ode and Collect. Mrs. Dorothy Snowden accompanied us on the piano. Mrs. Dorothy Pascoe, read the minutes and gave the Treasurer's report. Mrs. Marion Broome won the painting painting donated by Mr. E, Jukes of Willowrun Gallery. A shower was to he held for Laura Kapteyn on June 22 at our hall. July 25 is the date for our summer trip to the Kawartha Summer Theatre, Lindsay. Mrs. Marilyn Morawetz has agreed to lead an exercise group in the fall. Mrs. Joyce Taylor presented Gwen Hiemstra with a silver cream and sugar set for the completion completion of her twelve clubs for Provincial Honours. Gwen was unable to attend. Mrs. Anita Jensen read a "poem" to introduce the Canadian Industry theme. Mrs. Lyda Cryderman commented commented on the motto Perfection Perfection is not expected, but improvement improvement is. She reminded us that each has a special place in this world and each must learn to take someone else's advice - it could be better than our own.
