When the Executive was formed some months ago, a new committee was formed called Parent Liaison and Public Relations. One of this committee's first decisions, was to create a news column that would appear in the newspaper newspaper once a month in order to keep all parents and fans of B.M.H.A. fully aware of what was happening at the Executive Executive level of minor hockey in Bowmanville. Not everyone realizes that hundreds of hours are put in by volunteers on the Executive Executive to enable the hockey programs programs in our community to run smoothly. Thousands of dollars are required annually to pay for the ice time in our local arenas, as well as for the protective equipment required required by the players, One of the reasons for this news column is lo inform everyone of our fund-raising activities and, from time to time, to ask for the assistance of anyone connected connected with minor hockey. Probably the biggest change to ever take place in Bowman- ville's Minor Hockey program, program, will be the amalgamation amalgamation of the Recreation Hockey program with the Bowmanville Bowmanville Minor Hockey Association, Association, Meetings have been taking place for some time and the B.M.II.A, Executive has people in place to handle the transition. Several individuals individuals from the Recreation hockey system have volunteered volunteered to look after the operation operation of their league, and they are anxious for the change to take place as soon as possible. All we are waiting for is the Community Services staff to make their move. Bowmanville is one of the few communities with more than one minor hockey system, and several problems arc created because of this. Dissatisfaction in the Recreation Recreation hockey system due to lack of ice time and games, and a lack of players interested in playing for Representative teams are just two that come to mind. It is the intention of the B.M.H.A. to create an executive executive to look after the management management of the Recreation system, and consequently botli systems would be run by individuals directly involved. Much work lias yet to be done, but representatives of B.M.H.A. and Recreation are very confident that the end result will be extremely satisfactory. satisfactory. More will be announced later on the amalgamation, and other activities, in later columns. The first B.M.H.A. Bingo was held recently at the Lions Centre and was well received. Our next one will be held on July 16th, and it is hoped even more will attend. Watch for more details in upcoming Coming Events in The Statesman. We will be holding a Car Wash at the Bank of Enjoy the best of both Low-cost life insurance protection and high-interest annuities for savings. Let me put it together for you. Dennison Girls Down Brooklin By John Morris On June 26th Dennison's Girls Atoms did it again! This time on the road at Brooklin winning by the score of 3 - 0, The girls turned in a fine team effort, with all the players contributing to the victory. Most of the game was played on the Brooklin side of the centre line with Susan McCullough, Danielle Peirce, Andrea Slocombe and Myka Piekenbrock pressing the play. Cheryl Ann Cole finally proved successful with her outside shooting, scoring not once but twice. Sarah Couch continued to dominate on the offence. She scored the third Bowmanville goal finishing off a pretty play which was started started by Tracy Michaud. Tracy, ran the ball up the field past several of the Brooklin defenders defenders and then passed to Sarah who pul it into the goal. The girls are learning they have to play hard for the entire game, this time keeping the pressure on for both halves. When on occasion, Brooklin did get the ball into the Bowmanville end, the girls came back to help the defense clear it away from the goal, July 3 and July 10 secs the girls playing an important home and home series against Whitby J.M.T. They play first on the road and then back home at Durham Christian High School for the return match. I would encourage one and all to come out and support support this fine group of girls as they continue to do an excellent excellent job of representing Bowmanville, hooked-on-videol AFTER THE MOVING MON.
