On Saturday evening, June 16, Ken and Ruby were hosts to their many friends at an 'Open House' and Dance in the Manvers Community Centre. Guests attended from the immediate community and from several other areas, especially the Bowmanville - Solina area where they had lived before coming to Bethany four years ago. We are surely glad that they decided to make this their home and wish them many more years of happiness together. together. The barn on the property of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Porter was destroyed by fire recently with the loss of a number of cattle and pigs. Mr. Bob Ryley, when attempting to assist in some capacity, had, the misfortune to fall and in-' jure a shoulder. We wish you a speedy recovery, Bob. Mr. and Mrs. W. McMahon have returned from spending a week in London (England) and Normandy during the time of the D-Day Reunion memorial celebrations. Despite the fact that they (and most other 'casual' visitors) had no opportunity to attend the many "official functions", they had a most memorable excursion on D-Day when they visited each of the beaches where the Canadians, Americans Americans and British troops landed, landed, had some quiet moments before the memorials and in the Canadian Cemetery at Beny-sur-mer and the American American Cemetery at Omaha. While in England they were privileged to visit the D-Day War Museum (opened the day before by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ID and Southwick House, which had served as the late President Eisenhower's Eisenhower's headquarters during the many months when the D-Day campaign was being planned. Both of these historic buildings are in Portsmouth.
