Dennison Ajax Greenshields Pickering Optimists Whitby JMT Ajax Flyers Whitby Kinsmen Brooklin As I said, last week, July 3 was the beginning of an important home and home series for Dennison's against Whitby J.M.T. This game proved to be the hardest, yet the girls managed to keep their undefeated record intact winning by a 2-0 score. Bowmanville played a tight defensive game letting Whitby carry the ball to them. The girls, led by Christine West, Christina Thrasher, Tracy Michaud, and Susan McCullough then capitalized on Whitby's mistakes, to carry the ball back to their opponents end with Sarah Couch finishing off the plays to score both goals. On defense, Stephanie Noble, Katie Woodcock, Susan 5 1 0 4 1 1 4 1 2 4 0 2 2 1 3 1 0 5 0 0 6 Read and Myka Piekenbrock played excellent games. Stephanie Sleep played an outstanding game in the Bowmanville goal stopping Whitby short when they did get through the defense. Chrystal Courneyea deserves special mention for her strong defensive play as she often got the girls out of trouble by driving the ball out of their end. In previous articles, mention has been made of the girls who make up the Dennison Atom A roster but one person has been left out, their coach A1 Cole. Regional Soccer News By Dick Budel The Colts Soccer Club had another successful week last week as our teams posted a record of three wins, one tie and one loss. The two Mosquito teams met with mixed success as the Town Sports team took it on the chin, absorbing a 5 - 2 loss at the feet of Tyrone 2 in a game played at Tyrone on July 2nd. Norman Wybenga scored both of the Newcastle goals, the identity of the Tyrone scorers remains a mystery. Meanwhile, the Port of Newcastle team met Kinsmen Kinsmen Rovers at Waverley and came up big, posting a 7 - 0 win. This was a real team effort as seven different players scored, namely John Rogerson, Jason Carroll, Andrew McSweeney, Brandon Coyle, Nicky Gallelo, Chris Potter and David Sheridan. On July 3 the Virtue Fuel Pee Wees met Orono at Newcastle Newcastle and had to come from behind to win 4 - 2. In fact the Orono squad was leading 2 - 0 at half-time when the Newcastle Newcastle boys finally woke up. L. Kaldeway andS. Irwin scored for Orono while Mark and Jan Vanderhcyden scored once each for Newcastle, as did Dwayne Foster and Casey DePlaa. The Kraco Contracting Atoms continued their unbeaten unbeaten streak with a 4 -1 victory over Orono at Clark High School, but the game was mucli closer than the score would indicate as goalie David Budel was called upon to make several good saves, especially in the second half. Steven Miller scored two while Chris McSweeney and George Glasberger scored the singles. We were not given the name of the Orono scorer. Orono and Newcastle met again on July 5, this time at the Squirt level, and the result was a 2-2 tie as Orono tied the score near the end of. the regulation time. The game featured end to end action and the tie was a true indicator of the closeness of the play. Paul Woods scored both goals for Orono, Shawn Stephenson scored, both for the K of C Colts. ' Upcoming action is as follows: Wed. July 11, Kraco Contracting Contracting Atoms host Bowmanville Bowmanville Rangers. Mon. July 16, Town Sports Mosquitos at Hampton (Darlington Arena), Port of Newcastle Mosquitos host Orono. Tues. July 17, Virtue Fuel Pee Wees at Waverley vs United. Wed.
