Son Patrick Clemence and his friend, Miss France Gauthier, from Gravenhurst, visited at the Holmes' with his mother. Mr. and Mrs. Wes Graham, Pontiac, Michigan, arrived at her sister and brother-in-law's home for a week's visit before Mrs. Clemence departed for California, so all enjoyed this family reunion. A busload of residents of Parkview Apartments and Newcastle Senior Citizens greatly enjoyed their Halibur- ton bus trip last Thursday. Lunch at Deer Lodge and a boat trip on Lake Kashaga- wigamog were thé highlights. Newcastle Horticultural Rose Show On Thursday, July 5, at the Newcastle Town Hall, the annual Rose Show was held. There were 15 senior exhibitors exhibitors and two juniors, and the judge was Mrs. Sandford of Oshawa. Guest speaker for the evening was most interesting with her display of dolls. Tamblyn Family Picnic About 100 people gathered at Orono Park on July 14 for the annual Tamblyn Family Picnic at noon. Delores and Revel Kohler came the longest distance from Bountiful, Utah near Salt Lake City. • Art and Phyllis Delberth from Rochester served their famous 'whitehots' at the noon meal. Games were held after lunch for the children. Races and relays were run and the games such as the . water balloon toss were a big hit. Firefighters extinguish a blaze which broke out Saturday morning at the corner of Church St. and Scugog St., in Bowmanville. The Newcastle Fire Department reports that the fire was ignited when this vehicle, a 1974 Camaro, was started. Damage was estimated at $1,000. There were no injuries. , Officers - President: Bill Tamblyn, Secretary: Mark and Darlene Tamblyn. Bob and Mina Tamblyn held special presentations for people from the longest distance, lady with the largest feet, couple with the largest combined age, man with the baldest head and the mother with the most children at the picnic. Musical entertainment - Mark and Kristen Plummer and Jill Brown played recorders accompanied by Shirley Brown. Nancy Tamblyn played the piano. Glenn and Carlos Tamblyn played the piano and the trumpet. Several other people entertained with anecdotes and family history. Monthly Dinner Party A good attendance at the Monthly Dinner and Meeting at the Durham Sr. Citizens, 4T club in hall. A tasty chicken dinner was enjoyed by all present and congratulations to Mr. Roy Patton who won the 50-50 draw. Gladys Brown entertained at the new electric organ, which was recently donated to our club by Jack Miller's „ sister, Mrs. Leolà Thrasher (Mrs. George), formerly of Bowmanville and also a new exercise machine. We are very appreciative of this generous donation to our club. Those celebrating July birthdays included - Mrs. Dorothy Bailey, 1 Mrs. Marjorie Collard and Harry Collison. Our August meeting will feature a visit and dinner to Cullen Gardens, Whitby, August 16th. We welcome our new caretakers, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Woodward who have recently taken over from Orville and Isabelle Challice who have been our caretakers for the past 3'/2 years. An excellent attendance at Kirby United Church on Sunday morning for a combined congregation from Orono, Newcastle and Kirby Churches. Beautiful music was supplied by choir singing "He", and a delightful duet by Mrs. Tizzard and Doreen Lowery "Whispering Hope". Much enjoyed by all present. Next Sunday's service will be in Orono United with Rev. Roland Hopkins as speaker.
