By Dick Budel Well that's itl The end of another (regular) soccer season, and now we have to wait for the playoffs. The final week of the regular regular season was a good one for the Newcastle Colts as our teams posted three wins and a tie with no losses. The Town Ladies Golf The Business Girls section of the Bowmanville Golf and Country Club entertained the morning ladies golf section Tuesday evening, July 24th. Nine holes of golf were played with a dinner afterwards. Thirty ladies took part and prizes were awarded to Lydia Abbott, Low gross 45; Rena Island, Low net 31.5. Hidden teams were drawn up and first prize team was Doreen Davies, Rena Island, Betty Lobb and Lill Hooper. Second place team - Marg Arnold, Loretta Bartsch, Judy Barnes, Audrey Parker. Closest to the 13th hole, Mary Topping. Low putts Helen Trewin. Lucky draws were won by Diane Rowe, Miriam Watkins and Pat Rout. Saturday, Aug. 25 is the Ladies closing, tee off time 8:30 a.m. with a barbeque at Viv Cowan's afterwards. Regional Soccer News Sports Mosquitos came up big as they ran up a 12 - 0 score over Bowmanville Kinsmen. Unfortunately I don't have the scorers; I guess the coach must have been so excited that he swallowed the game sheet! On July 24th, the Virtue Fuel Pee Wees triumphed over Bowmanville United by a 4 - 2 score at Waverley Public. Jan Vanderheyden and Jeff Koopmans scored one each and Chris Hull, up from the Town Sports Mosquitos, tallied twice. Paul Smethurst and Shawn Power scored for United. July 25th, the Kraco Contracting Contracting Atoms completed an undefeated season, shutting out Orono by a 2 - 0 score. Benjamin Vanderheyden and Brendenn Bates scored for Newcastle with the shut-out going to David Budel. This team scored 60 goals in 10 games, while holding the opposition to a mere three goals, quite an achievement! July 26 the K of C Squirts fought to a tough 1 -1 tie with Roy Nichols. Shawn Stephenson Stephenson scored for Newcastle, Jeff Murphy replied for Roy Nichols. Now let's have a look at how our teams fared during the 1984 regular season.
