He told Mr. Symonds Monday that he planned planned all along to come to Port Hope, but a change in his schedule means he must fly to Europe on Friday in preparation preparation for the world professional professional championships championships in less than a month's time. Mr. Bauer regretted the change, especially because the purse is so big, he said. The Grande Prix $1,500 first prize is one of the largest to be offered in Canada this year. Mr. Symonds said that although he regrets regrets Mr. Bauer's withdrawal withdrawal from the race, the pro-am field will still be very high quality. quality. Committed to the race are two Toronto teams, the Bloor Cycle and Racer Sportif squads. The Bloor team is in its third season and is the most successful successful sponsored team in the province; this success success is due in large part to coaching of Jocelyn Lovell. Members of the Bloor team induce Bauer's Olympic teammate, Eon D'Ornellas, one of Ontario's and Canada's finest roadracers. Also on the Bloor team is Kelly-Ann Way. Way set a new high- water mark for Canadian Canadian women cyclists this year by winning a stage of the women's Tour de France.
