Miss Hally Hurrin returned home with her following following a week's holiday with her cousins there. Over 100 ladies congregated in Yelverton Church Hall on Wednesday evening, Aug. 15th which soon became a cross between a sauna and Dantes inferno with the addition of all those perspiring female forms. The occasion was a miscellaneous shower for Yelverton's own Gloria McCullough who is scheduled to enter into matrimony in mid September. Gloria was assisted in the performance of her duties (opening gifts, etc.) by her sister Mary, her sister- in-law Phyllis, Ms. Heather McGill and Ms. Kim Neals. The bride-elect was the recipient recipient of a fine array of lovely gifts for which she expressed her gratitude and appreciation appreciation and also invited those present to visit her and her hubby-to-be in their new home when they get settled. Gloria will be moving into the former Yelverton School which they will be adapting for living quarters. A sumptuous lunch provided by the family brought a pleasant if somewhat somewhat steamy evening to a happy conclusion. A number of relatives and neighbours gathered on the same evening at the Frank Glasbergen Jr.'s to honour a double birthday observation - Marlene and son David. Those present included Frank and Elizabeth Glasbergen of Orono. Gerald and Alice McGill, Yelverton, Corrie and Auke Van Der Moor and their youngest son of Prince Albert and Corrie and Harvey Malcolm of Malconia. The average impression of the tri-party Leadership women's issue debate was an overall vast yawn. The combination combination of a bi-lingual conversation conversation being carried on simultaneously was reminiscent reminiscent of a tape recording taken in a hen house with about as much substance. Literally, despite our good intentions to not succumb, we fell asleep listening to such stimulating drivel. The three candidates each seemed to vie for which one was the most acrobatic in bending over backwards to kiss the posteriors of those smug strident panelists. We expected to hear them at any moment promise to rush out after the program and indulge in a vasectomy - or even worse. From our personal observations observations of many years of girl and woman watching purely .of course to try to figure what makes them tick, we have reached one conclusion. conclusion. Women in general, will never support those publicity seeking females with the flat chests, stringy hair, blatant voices who always seem to be the self proclaimed leader of most feminist organization. The forthcoming election has elicited a minimum of excitement in our community. Only a couple of candidate signs have sprung up overnight overnight on lawns or along the roadways. It is possible that one of the active local supporters supporters of the N.D.P. party may be easily recognizable in the near future. The reason is quite obvious, for although he or she may have a keen interest interest in politics, he obviously was no student of Botany. The sign at the neat crossroad reposes snap dab right in the middle of the only patch of Poison Ivy to be found in the neighbourhood. Sorry to learn that Mr. James Gray was taken to Peterborough Civic Hospital this past week with a heart condition. All join in wishing Genial Jim a speedy recovery. On Saturday evening Corrie and I were present at a pleasant pleasant social evening at the home of Bridgitte and Walter Raez of Myrtle held in honour of their daughter and husband Marianne and Norman Schruber of Liechtenstein who are currently spending a three week vacation in Canada. Last week they enjoyed a tour through U.S.A. hitting Lake Placid, New York City and Atlanta, as well as many other points of interest betwixt and between.
