2 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, August 29,1984 h Carson's Plant Missing Friends of Carson Elliott were distressed to learn that he recently lost one of his prized Bougainvillea plants. One of a pair of Carson's Brazilian "paper flowers" (the flower's English name), this plant had until recently framed the Wellington Street entrance to the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home. After serving in this capacity during the summer, the Bougainvillea spent the winter in greenhouses in the Orono area. This spring, one of these beautiful flowers went missing. Carson was shattered: "I have cared for these plants for years. The loss of one of them really bothers me." The following poem has been composed to express his sadness : Lament for the Lost Bougainvillea Son of Nyctaginacea, Paper flower of the Brazilian pot, Named for Louis de Bougainville, Loved by Carson Elliott ; You vigorous spiny climber, Thick-leaved with pert pink bracts, Showy with small clustered flowers. Unused to callous, thieving acts ; Alone, did you flower this spring? Alone, will you flower this fall? 0 where is the lone Bougainvillea - Taken from Carson, so taken from all? Carson is hoping that anyone having information concerning the whereabouts of this plant will contact him. Well that's it, Carson. Even if you can't use this, I hope that it may at least make you smile. Best wishes, Don Childs Reg.
