John was the major factor in keeping the winners from taking a larger lead as he handles half a dozen fielding chances flawlessly. FLASHBACK -- 10 YEARS AGO -- At the Bowmanville Bowmanville Country Club Championship Day on Saturday the winners were Butch Stephen - Men's Champion, Jean Pratt - Ladies' Champion, Champion, Rick James - Junior Champion and Carrie Pearson - Junior Girls' Champion. Scottish Golfers Lose Out in Own Tournament ROUND ROBIN -- Newcastle Lakers Senior E.O.B.A. ball team heads for a round robin series for the championship in Walkerton this weekend having defeated Milton on Sunday in Newcastle to win the semi-finals. REGISTRATIONS -- Orono Figure Skating Club and Orono Minor Hockey Registrations are tonight tonight (Wednesday) from 7-9 p.m. in the Orono Arena Lobby. ACE -- The 17th, 123 yd. hole at Newcastle Golf Course was aced by a guest of Jim Firth, Ted Brachtvogel from Northumberland, England, using an eight iron, on Wednesday, August 22nd, the foursome consisted of Doug Wiseman, Bob Hilditch, Jim and Ted. HORSE SHOW -- The Port Perry Fair - Horse Show Division 1984 has the potential to be the best yet and "where the action will be" on Labour Day Weekend. With more than 100 classes to be judged over the three days, the competitors and spectators will have an exciting reason to attend. Starting on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. the Junior Gymkhana and Horse Show, along with an Arabian Hunter - Jumper Show will get underway. Classes vary from the fun of an egg and spoon race (on horseback) to a more serious class of jumping over fences. On Sunday morning the infield will be featuring a Western Speed Event Show. At the same time in Ring No. 3, a permanent hunter course. At 2:00 p.m. the popular harness racing will take place on the track. Monday is another big day with the Draft Horses and Ponies showing in Ring No. 1. The Horse Pulls are at 2:00 p.m. and at 11:00 a.m. the Hackney Horses, Arabians and Saddlebreds. In the centre ring, the Open Pleasure Horse Show will determine the Port Perry Grand Champion Pleasure Horse for 1984. The Opening Ceremonies on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. feâfürei'a musical ride performance by the equestrians from Hoskin's Stables. The demolition derby goes Sunday at 6:30 p.m. : The Bowmanville Golf Club was filled with Scotsmen on Saturday morning for the annual Scottish Golf Tournament. But, the Scots could not take home first prize this year, as the team captained by Howard Davies captured first place in the team event. The winning team members are shown above receiving their prizes from Scottish organizers Bill Finnie and Alex Liddell. The winners are Ken Bennett, Norm Fisher, Joe Straberger, Howard Davies, Ossi Sponer and Paul Kowal. SERIES TIED -- On Monday, the Bowmanville Merchants tied their fastball series with Oshawa, taking the game 11-1, after dropping the first game 4-3.
