Approximately 45 members of the Durham 4T club journeyed journeyed by bus to Cullen Gardens, on Thursday, Aug. 23, and as usual enjoyed the beautiful gardens and miniature miniature village. A delicious dinner dinner was served to the group to bring an enjoyable day to its close. Last Saturday evening supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hughie Stapleton, Port Hope, were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Stapleton, Orono. Mr. and Mrs. 0. Challice spent the past weekend at their daughter's cottage, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Brown and girls, Campbellford. A miscellaneous bridal shower was held last Wednesday, Wednesday, Aug. 22, in Kirby United Church hall, in honor of Miss Patti Cumerford, Oshawa. She is the bride-elect of Mr. David Chatterton, and the wedding is Sept. 29. The shower was hosted hosted by ladies of Kirby and Orono. Mrs. Mary Morris and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stapleton were Saturday visitors in Oshawa. Mrs. Margaret Sutherland and daughter Mrs. Sylvia Trull, Bethany are currently enjoying a trip out west. Many from Orono attended the joint church service on Sunday, held in Newcastle United Church. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Stapleton were Sunday evening evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Alldread, Oshawa. Rev. Fred Milne and son David arrived on Tuesday, and Mrs. Milne and daughter will arrive on Wednesday to take up residence in our fair village. Rev. Milne is our new United Church minister and we welcome them to our community. Mr. Raymond Chapman, Newcastle, Mrs. Dorothy Bailey, Mrs. Eileen Billings and Mrs. Ruby Staples visited Mrs. Norma Long, Fenelon Falls, last Tuesday. Mrs. Dora Gaynor, Fenelon Falls, spent the past weekend visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. Rosie Graham, Orono. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Stapleton were Monday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Tompkins at their cottage at Sunset Bay, Rice Lake. Mrs. Dorothy Bailey spent several days last week, visiting visiting her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kimmett and family, Lindsay. . Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnston, Johnston, Oakville were recent callers of Mrs. Billings and Mrs. Bailey. Congratulations to the Newcastle Newcastle Horticulture Society who held a very excellent flower and vegetable show, last Wednesday. The Jr. members excelled the adult group in entries and in some cases the quality of entries too. Blackstock On Friday evening an exciting Demolition Derby was held with almost a full slate of competitors. The first Derby held here was declared a success by the large number who attended. Durham Region Horseback Riding for the Handicapped Association Association will be holding their sixth annual Open House on Sunday, Sept. 9, 1964 at 1 o'clock at Hoskin Stables (on Durham Durham Road No.57, south of Blackstock). On this occasion handicapped riders will be displaying their riding skills for the public. Anyone interested interested int he work of this Association is invited to attend this display. Lunch will be provided by the parents of the handicapped riders. The Hoskin Stable's Musical Ride, as seen at Oshawa, Blackstock, Port Perry and Oak- wood Fairs, will be performed for the public. Please bring a, lawn chair. The Association is also looking for experienced experienced riders with their own horses to take part in their sixth annual 25 km. Ride-a-thon to be held on Sat. Sept. 22 from Hoskin Stables, Blackstock.
