This school is under sponsorship sponsorship of the United Church of Canada. Mrs. Sweet spent two years there, and found it an enriching experience. She showed slides of the girls at the school and the various classrooms, gardens, and activities. The girls all wore uniforms, their curriculum was much the same as ours, of course in the Japanese language. They were eager to learn English, classes were comprised of about 25 students. Other classes usually usually contained as many as 50 students. Mrs. Sweet had many articles on display she had brought from Japan which included craft work made by the girls. Mrs. Ray Porleous, president, president, chaired the meeting and welcomed all back for the fall season. Items discussed were the up-coming Turkey Supper, which is to be Friday, Nov. 2nd, the Presbyterial Fall Rally will be Wed., Oct. 3rd, 6:30 p.m., Pot Luck Supper at St. James Church, Peterborough. Peterborough. The U.C.W. supplied lunch at the Gary and Virginia Bentley Sale on Sat., Sept. 15th: A donation of $100 was voted to be given to the Cat. Scan Fund by the U.C.W. Volunteers offered their help to paint the Church Hall when the cement floor has been laid. It is in the process of being done now. The U.C.W. are to finance the paint etc. for the project. The devotional period was under the direction of Group Leader Mrs. Marjorie Coppins whose theme was Mission and Service. She was assisted by Mrs. Viola Thorndyke and Mrs. Mildred Bristow. Mrs. Nelly Michele sang a solo during the offering, entitled: "The Earth O Lord Belongs To Thee." Mrs. Addison Scott thanked our guest speaker Mrs. Sweet for a very interesting talk and showing of slides. We are indeed indeed lucky to have people willing to give of their time and energy to help in this way and then .come and tell us something of their experiences. experiences. Next meeting will be held at the - usual time, Monday, Oct. 1st at 8 p.m. in the United Church Hall with the Thanksgiving theme, and the Bethany United Church Minister as the speaker. Wes and Jeanne also spent an enjoyable weekend at the Kirkfield area cottage on Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Couper- thwaite, Unionville. We were pleased to have Rev, Brian Robinson of the Scugog Pastoral Charge who presented a fine message dealing with problems we have in our society today. More lots have been sold and more homes will be constructed before Christmas. About 30 friends and relatives relatives attended Mike Leddy's 28th birthday at Lyndhurst Hospital on Aug. 26th., Brian Green was home from New Brunswick and was also able to attend. Mike would enjoy seeing some of the boys from his department from General Motors.
