By Dick Budel The soccer season has at last come to an end as the playoff champions were decided decided in each age group. Unfortunately, Unfortunately, none of the Newcastle Newcastle Colts teams managed to capture any of the playoff titles, although our Town Sports Mosquitos reached the finals. Yet we can console ourselves with the fact that we did end up with three (out of five teams) regular season champions. The Kraco Contracting Contracting Atoms were the Division Division B Atom Champs, the Town Sports Mosquitos were the Mosquito Champs and the Virtue Fuels Pee Wees were the Pee Wee Champs. Now let's examine what happened in the playoffs. In the Squirt age group, Rice Construction ended up in the final by virtue of three straight victories while Tim's Rental gained the final via the consolation event. Rice Construction Construction showed why they had gone undefeated as they downed the Tim's squad by a 5 - 3 margin, a score that was closer than expected. In the Atom group, Tyrone I reached the finals on the strength of an undefeated playoff record, meeting Orono I which had fought its way through the consolation event. Even though the Orono I squad put up a valiant struggle the Tyrone team ended up as 4 - 1 victors, capping an undefeated season. The Town Sports Mosquitos (Newcastle I) earned the right to host the Mosquito final, meeting consolation winner Orono I. The tight and exciting contest ended up as a 2 - 1 victory for the Orono squad, as the Newcastle boys were unable to bring off the double of league and playoff championships. championships. The Pee Wee final featured undefeated Tyrone versus Blizzard from Bowmanville. These two teams had previously previously played to a 3 - 3 tie and a 4 - 3 decision for Tyrone, and the final was equally close as Tyrone won the championship game, 2 -1. I would like to extend my congratulations to the winning players and coaches. It was a good season, albeit somewhat long, and we hope to see you all return next year.
