Motor vehicle fatalities over the first six months of 1984 were down 18.1 per cent against the same period last year said Ontario Minister of Transportation and Communications James Snow. During the January- June period this year, 430 people were killed in Ontario roads -- down from 525 in first half of '83. "The 1984 figures represent the lowest six-month fatality total since 1960 and can be attributed, at least in part, to the impact of anti-drinking/driving campaigns", campaigns", he said. To celebrate Ontario's Bicentennial, modern-day rebels and Loyalists will battle it out in North York ditring a restaging of the MacKenzie 1837 Rebellion. The confrontation is being organized by the North York Historical Board as part of the Hogg's Hollow Festival to be held on Sunday, September 30, beginning at 1 p.m. The Municipal Park on the east side of Yonge Street, south of York Mills Road, will be the site of the skirmish between the pike and pitchfork-armed rebels and musket-carrying Loyalist troops. One hundred members of local community groups will portray the rebels and the Loyalists will be represented by members of various period militia groups. Shiloh U.C.W. Meeting On Wednesday evening, September 19th, the Shiloh United Church Women met at the home of Mrs. Margaret Todd with 22 ladies present, Our President, Mrs. Ruth Robinson opened the meeting by having us repeat the "Lord's Prayer." Mrs. Margaret Todd then read several verses from the Bible followed by the devotional "Greater Love hath no Man" by Mrs. Edna Dobson, Reports Reports were given by Gloria Todd and Margaret Todd. Sophie Traicus, Ada Hallowell, Hallowell, Mary Caswell, Bernice Stark, Marion Fox and Dorothy Trim all contributed to the Birthday Box and everyone everyone joined in singing "Happy Birthday" to them. A donation was received by the U.C.W. from Mrs. Stan Falls of Toronto in memory of Mrs. Harold Little. We are considering the purchase of a suitable memorial. The U.C.W. has been asked to serve at two anniversary celebrations. Mr. and Mrs. Llew Hallowell will be celebrating celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday evening, November 24th at the Kirby Public School Auditorium Auditorium and on Sunday afternoon, afternoon, December 9th, the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Todd will be celebrated at Newtonville Community Hall. Shiloh United Church anniversary services will be held on October 14th with special music by the Ebenezer United Church choir. A card party is to be held at Kendal Orange Hall in the very near future. Mary Caswell and Ruth Andrews are the convenors for this affair and Marlene Luxton will be donating the prizes. The quilting of the quilts was discussed. Ruth Robinson and a committee will assemble a quilt and report back to us. by the October meeting. There will be cleaning bee for the church on Saturday afternoon, October 13th. The October meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, October 17th at the home of Mary Caswell. The meeting closed with the reporting of the Mizpah Benediction. Benediction. Margaret Todd then introduced Mrs. Kathleen Shaw of Newtonville who showed her arrangements of silk flowers and wicker ware. This was followed by a tasty lunch of sandwiches and pickles and a social time. Scott H. Buzby has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Goodyear Canada Inc. Buzby, former executive vice president of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company of Akron, Ohio, and president of that firm's tire division, replaces Clifford H. Johnson. Johnson has been elected executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company in Cumberland, Maryland. Born February 5, 1929, in Philadelphia, Buzby was graduated from Middlebury College and joined Goodyear as a service representative in Pittsburgh in 1954. Transferred to Akron and the subsidiary Goodyear International Corporation in 1956, he was assigned to Brazil a year later and in 1962 was named sales manager of Goodyear's operations in Colombia. Appointed sales director in Australia in 1966, he became Goodyear's managing director there in 1967. Buzby was reassigned to Akron and named a vice president of Goodyear International in 1971.
