2 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 3,1984 Section Two Graduate. GLENN DOUGLAS MILLER Glenn Douglas Miller, the son of Doug and Joan Miller of Tyrone, recently graduated from Durham College, Oshawa, with a diploma in Business Administration, Marketing Option. He has accepted a position with Miracle Mart Foods. Glenn is a former honors graduate of Courtice Secondary School. Letter to The Editor "! Attention Ladies Playing Ball!" Ladies Slow Pitch Goes to the Dogi Ladies! Those of you who play ball. Where were you? You want to play ball yet you're too busy to come to a meeting to find out what's happening. Well...Don't feel bad. There was only one executive who showed up... It shows how much interest there is in the "Ladies Slow Pitch League" continuing. I feel real sorry for those women like me who want to get out and play ball. I always wondered who the backbone of "Ladies Slow Pitch" was. It seems to me that we're still in the dark ages where women don't have the right to vote and join together to back colleges, to show persons who've been elected that Hey! Hold on a minute. We can think for ourselves. ourselves. We want to have some say in what is happening. It's not as if we don't have minds of our own but we certainly don't have mouths or count for anything as far as some persons are concerned. What would we do or who would we turn to if rumour had it the executive were going to try and kick us out. Your team, my team, or their team. What can we do as 'Ladies' playing ball? Not much. If we don't stand together. There are at least one hundred and fifty women playing playing ball yet we're lucky if 10 percent show up for a meeting called by the executive. Decisions are being made which we don't know about but should be made aware of. They may not concern us now but what about the future? I don't feel we're hearing the whole story. A meeting was called so all ball players could hear both sides of the story, so we could see what actually happened and what was done yet only one executive showed up and only one side of the story was heard. No one else showed up to defend or deny anything. I feel that rules were made to be obeyed not broken yet one was broken here. According According to 1984 Rules and Regulations Regulations set out by the league, executive members can sit in but not participate or "take no part in the decision" made by the Advisory Committee yet they overruled them. I'd like to ask a tew questions questions as a concerned citizen and interested ball player. 1. Why don't we follow all C.A.S.A. rules not just some? It'd make things a lot simpler. 2. Where were the executive? executive? Did they forget the meeting? Everyone was invited. invited. 3. How can the ball league sit back and watch one team take all the.,,? It's a reflection of the whole league. 4. Why of all the/ladies and teams in this league did only five teams have persons showing? 5. Isn't anyone interested in seeing how this ball league is run? G. At the Annual Meeting Oct. 18, 1984 in Court Room No. 1, am I going to be the only one there who will question the executive's right to: (1) have more than one representative from a team (2) the need for a power higher than our executive to make decisions that no one , can question. (3) what right they have to say and how will they put anyone out of this league. Sure was nice to see all the interest and sportsmanship etc...represented at the meeting meeting I attended earlier this week, I want to play ball next year, but we need a better system etc...Hope 1 see you at the Annual Meeting.
