The Loyal Orange Lodge in Tyrone has made a bid to purchase the Old Tyrone Hall for the sum of $1.00, to the Town of Newcastle. Volunteer leaders are required required for just two hours a week from Mid-October to April to assist at various youth programs in Whitby, Oshawa and the Bowmanville area. The Extension Program of the Eastview Boys' and Girls' Club has been providing youth with constructive activities for the past eight years, through the support of volunteer volunteer leaders. There are various types of Gym Programs Programs for boys and girls, ages six to 15 years of age, as well as crafts and Girls' Self-Improvement Self-Improvement Programs. If an individual wishes to become involved, they do not have to have professional skills. Training is provided for all leaders as well as support from qualified staff. If a person enjoys children, sjports, crafts or discussions, they would find this an enjoyable enjoyable outlet in their leisure time. For young adults, this volunteer work provides an excellent experience for those seeking people-oriented careers. By the use of volunteer volunteer leaders sharing their enthusiasm, the extension program can provide an enriching enriching experience for youth. Engagement Announced Country Fair Marks St. PauVs 150th Birthday St. Paul's United Church in Bowmanville celebrated its 150th Birthday on Thursday, September 27th. A Country Fair held in commemoration of the event, featured lunch and afternoon tea along with the sale of baked goods, preserves and crafts. Jane Wright, organizer of the fair, is pictured here in her old-fashioned garb. Evangelistic Project Coming Bowmanville's Salvation Army Corps will be conducting a five-day Evangelistic project from October 10th to 14th, with Major Robert Chapman and his wife Alvina in charge at the new citadel, 75 Liberty St. South. From Wednesday the services will begin at 7 p.m. There will be a Family service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 14 and an evening service at 6:30 p.m. For information call 623-3761. Major Robert Chapman is a fourth , generation Salvationist. He was born and educated in London, Ontario and entered the Toronto Training College in 1946 from the London South Corps. Following Commissioning, he was appointed to Dawson Creek, B.G., and subsequently spent nine /bars in'"Army Corps in the Alberta Division. In 1951 he married the former Lieutenant Alvina Scott of the Calgary Citadel Corps. In 1956 the Chapmans assumed command of the Mount Dennis (now York Temple) Corps in Toronto, and in 1960 a move to Newfoundland took them to the Grand Falls Corps. This was followed by terms of youth work in both the New Brunswick and Southern Ontario divisions. In 1969, a return to field work found them at the Parkdale Corps in Ottawa, with its eventual relocation relocation as the Woodroffe Temple Corps. Five years was then spent as divisional secretary for the Southern Ontario Division in Hamilton, followed by five years as the divisional commander for the Saskatchewan Division with headquarters in Regina. In his present capacity, as divisional commander for the Ontario Central Division, the Major has responsibility for the field (church) work of this region, and Mrs. Chapman is the director of women's services. Major Chapman Mrs. Alvina Chapman member of the i,Belleville Rotary Club, and is a frequent contributor to Army publications. They have two children and three grandchildren. Their son, Robert, with his wife and Major Robert Chapman three children are presently preparing' for overseas service with Wycliffe Bible Translators as a missionary pilot. Their daughter, Carolyn with her husband, reside in Winnipeg. To Help Big Sisters The steady growth of the Big Sisters organization has produced produced the need of an advisory board in the Oshawa-Whitby- Newcastle area. During a recent meeting of community people, Joan Sanderson was named to head this advisory board. The board will be employed on a volunteer basis to prepare a constitution and set policies for the organization. Members of the working board are Colette Losier, Linda Lowery, Irene Reid, Rev. John Peters, Charles Morison, Sharon Young, Judy Murray, Charles Marlowe and Lee Barnes. Since its formation in 1972 under the name of the Friendship Friendship Club, Big Sisters has seen a growing demand for its ser vices. Presently, the organization organization has 48 matches and several young girls left waiting waiting for a Big Sister. The matches currently in progress are constantly monitored by the Big Sister co-ordinator, Carol Rhodes. The aim of Big Sisters is to provide a special friend to young girls who are in need of stimulation, encouragement or perhaps a healthy adult model. But Museum Curator Marion Marion Veinot said last week that the lectures have been cancelled due to lack of public interest.
