Seminar at BHS Oct. 11 The Oshawa YWCA, Newcastle Newcastle area in co-operation with the Durham Health Council will host a seminar on Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) Thursday, October 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bowmanville Bowmanville High School auditorium. The seminar will be conducted conducted by Dr. J. C. Henderson, M.B., Ch.B., CCFP, Founder- Director of the PMS Centre in Mississauga. What is PMS? It is sometimes sometimes described as a collection of physical and emotional symptoms ranging in severity and occurs a week or more prior to menses but is treatable. treatable. It has been estimated that one-half of all women of childbearing years suffer from this disorder with the symptoms - headaches, depression, anxiety, fluid- retention, mood swings and irritability occurring each month. Dr. Henderson with Patricia Coutts, Reg. N., from the PMS Centre will share information with seminar participants discussing discussing causes of PMS, and treatment and recent research research advances. Two local residents will share their PMS experiences. Nancy Shosenberg, Reg. N., B.SC.N., M.H., from the Durham Health Council will moderate the session. Jones had the misfortune to fall in her home last Monday morning and is now wearing a sling for a bone broken in her shoulder. Several attended the 50th wedding celebration for Mr. and Mrs. George Walton held at the Community Hall, Newcastle on Sunday afternoon. Several from the village enjoyed the yearly fall bus trip to Waterloo and Cambridge and their factory outlets on Saturday sponsored by the U.C.W. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hale and John were dinner guests on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Maurice O'Neill. Mrs. Shirley Jones returned home to Sherwood Park Alberta after spending two weeks with Mrs. Bea Jones, relatives and friends on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stapleton, Sharon and Nadine and Mrs. Gladys Osborn of Port Hope attended the Ploughing Match at Teviotdale on Tuesday and had dinner with their son Marvin at Guelph who is attending the university there. The monthly meeting of the U.C.W. was held Wednesday evening in the Sunday School. The president opened the meeting with a poem followed by the Purpose. The'secretary's The'secretary's report was given followed followed by the treasurer's report, report, sunshine report and the social functions report mentioning the banquet and a 50th anniversary in the near future. Correspondence was read including a letter about the Regional meeting at Ebénezer United Church on Tuesday 16th of October. Our next meeting to be held on October 24th with Acy Farrow's group in charge of program, a week earlier than usual. Plans were made for our annual bazaar on October 27th beginning at 2:00. Each one to bring a wrapped gift to our next meeting for the "Pick a number." The devotional part was read by Sandra Mclnnes and Carolyn Gilmer on "Courage". Lunch of fruit bread and cheese with a cup of tea brought the evening to a close.
