i Scott H. Buzby has been elected president of Goodyear Canada Inc., appointed its chief executive officer and named to the board of directors. Also, in a restructuring of Goodyear Canada's tire production organization, Don Masters, vice-president of general products, assumes administrative responsibility for tire and textile production as well as general products. Whit Fiske, vice-president of tire production since 1982, has been appointed manager of the New Bedford, Mass., general products plant. Don started with Goodyear in production control at Bowmanville in 1950 and served in various production jobs until he was named shift foreman of the new reclaim plant there in 1964, Two years later, he was transferred to Collingwood as production manager, and, in 1973, was appointed manager of the Quebec City plant. He returned to Collingwood as plant manager in April 1976 and, a few months later, became production manager for all general products plants, a position he held until his appointment to vice- president in 1979. Durham College postsecondary postsecondary enrollment is up again this Fall. Total students attending Durham is 2,361 for the four post-secondary divisions of Applied Arts, Business Health Sciences and Technology. This compares to 2,328 at this time last year. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Baker of Scugog Street, Port Perry, who celebrated 50 years of marriage on Saturday, September 22nd. The couple have resided in Port Perry for the past 10 years. In honor of the Golden Anniversary, they were treated to a special dinner at Emiel's Place in Port Perry by their daughters, Janice and Mary, and son Grant, his wife Mary Jane, sons-in-law, Vytas Treciokas and John Carey. The Anniversary party included the immediate family with six grandchildren and other close relatives. Congratulations to Eric Leinberger on his retirement from Goodyear Canada, Bowmanville, with 38 years service, and to J.I. Forder, with 30 years service. An exhibition depicting the life of Canadians during the Confederation era is now on display at the Bowmanville Museum and will be on view until Saturday, October 27th. Palmerston Avenue Public School and Whitby Senior Public School -- Whitby. Cartwright Public School -- Blackstock. The ultimate goal of the program is to provide health education to all public school children in the Region on the risks associated with smoking. Two public health nurses will be working with teachers in presenting information to all students in the selected schools. At the same time an effort will be made to raise the awareness in the community of the smoking problem and this particular program. Students will be surveyed as to their existing level of knowledge, behavior, beliefs and attitudes before the class and at the end of the school year. The project will terminate August, 1985. If the evaluation is satisfactory, the program will be introduced Regionwide. Regionwide. Lawn Bowling Club News The Bowmanville Lawn Bowling Club concluded their official season with two eight end games of bowling, followed by a Pot Luck Supper on Sunday, September 30th. Previous to this, one team from Bowmanville travelled to Oshawa on Saturday, September 15th to compete in the McMillan trophy. The team of Clarence Oke (Skip), Mabel Mavin and Ab Mavin were successful in winning the prize for High Score for two wins. The following day, Sunday, September 16, two teams went to Port Hope to take part in the Cooper Trophy. Again a Bowmanville team of Bryan Hughes (Skip) and Peter Bathgate won the prize for high score for two wins. Ab Mavin (Skip) and Harold Bennett had a very enjoyable day but finished out of the money. The church was beautifully beautifully decorated for Thanksgiving Thanksgiving with a lot of our bountiful bountiful vegetables and fruits and Rowers from some of the gardens around the area. The senior choir sang a delightful anthem suitable for the occasion under the direction of our organist and leader, Mrs. Ulah Chambers. Mr. Lafave's message was based on "The Grace of Gratitude." The Enniskillen I Healthy Homemakers held their second meeting on Oct. 2,1984. Our President Penny Beckett started the meeting with the 4-Hpledge and roll call. Tracy Howe read the minutes from meeting one. We went over our meeting and discussed body fat and nutrition. Pauline Beckett and Cindy Richards made split pea soup while the rest of the members calculated calculated our percentage of body fat. When the soup was ready we all had some and there were cheese croutons to be added if you liked.
