Mrs. Helen Carveth, Orono and Mrs. Irene Cunningham motored to Amherstburg last Thursday to visit Mrs. Rene Roberts and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John James and family. The ladies returned home Saturday and report that everyone is fine. Mrs. Eva Smith and son Jim returned Saturday from a week in the north country with Eva's son-in-law and daughter, daughter, the Boyle's of Sudbury. The men enjoyed moose hunting around their Westree Camp while Eva and Donna enjoyed walks in the beautiful autumn woods on lovely warm days. No moose! On Sunday Mrs. Kathleen Kimball accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Ewart Robinson, Stark- ville, to Oshawa, where Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sheffield entertained entertained friends and family on the occasion of the birthday of her father, Mr. Allan Martin. United Church News At Newcastle United Church on Sunday, October 14, the Enniskillen News The Enniskillen I Healthy Homemakers held their 3rd meeting on Oct. 9th at the home of Mrs. B. Howe. We began the meeting with the 4-H pledge. Mary Lee Howe read the minutes from meeting meeting two and our treasurer Dawn Romano collected the members' fees. We discussed meeting one and answered all the questions. Mary Lee Howe and Kim Lee made fruit custard and we talked about our achievement demonstration demonstration until the dish was ready. All members thought the .custard was good and went ;back for seconds. After the cleanup was done the meeting .was adjourned at 8:57. • First Enniskillen Scouts spend the afternoon of Oct. 13th building a bridge for Ron Mayer, going towards badges. The Cubs have been busy selling apples through the surrounding villages. The Cubs picked grounders at Fred Ford's on Saturday. Last Sunday night Mr. and Mrs. Jake Gerryts and sons, Mrs. James Piggott, Bowmanville, Bowmanville, Mrs. John Gorrill, Lindsay visited Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Piggott. AGRICULTURAL NEWS By Barry O'Neil R.O.S. Specialist (Agriculture) PROVINCIAL 4-II "REACH FOR THE TOP" COMPETITION HOSTED BY DURHAM EAST This year's provincial 4-H "Reach for the Top" Competition will be held at Bowmanville High School on October 20th. Eighteen teams from various counties in the province will be competing. This year, the Ontario Stockyards will be providing $100 to each of the top two teams. The money will be used at the county level for youth leadership activities. The program starts at 9:00 a.m, and the final game is at 8:00 p.m. 4-H members from the other counties will be billeted with 4-H families in this area. This is the third year for this competition and the first time hosted by Durham East. 200 WINTER EXPERIENCE JOBS ANNOUNCED FOR YOUTH "Winter Experience 84/85" will provide more than 2(H) jobs in the Agriculture and Food sector for young people between the ages of 15 and 24. The jobs will run from 16 to 24 weeks at a pay rate of $4.00 per hour. There are four programs. New this year is the Winter Agricrew program where 67 positions are available in work groups of two or four. Farmers may hire a crew of two for $50 per day, or a crew of four for $90 per day for a maximum of five days. Also new are 13 positions for Consumer Information Officers, open to food service management graduates, who will deliver programs in consumer information to schools, church groups and senior citizens in urban areas. Two programs are being, extended. The first, Agricultural Trainees, provides 100 positions for young people to work on farms caring for livestock, repairing machinery, and performing other general farm duties.
