Although it was always thought that the sole purpose purpose of fillers was to maintain maintain pace in the procession; any child would gladly tell you that fillers are often the most popular features in a parade. Afterall, a parade just isn't a parade without a loveable handshake from a clown or a friendly smile from a two-headed creature. creature. So, having realized the value of their fillers, the Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade Committee has decided decided to include a Best Filler Filler award among their trophy presentations this year, to be awarded to the number one attraction in the parade aside from the bands and floats. "This will be the first year that we've offered this award," explained Marie Baker, Filler Supervisor for the parade. "We hope that this, .will encourage more "people to participate."if •- Marie went on to say that almost any type of costume United Wiau or routine would be suitable suitable to enter as a filler in the Santa Claus Parade.
