Early in the third period, Marc scored an unassisted goal which seemed to encourage the Toros to try harder. The effort paid off as Jeremy Laird stole the puck off a Peterborough defence- man and scored. Late in the third period Jeremy made a good play behind the opposition opposition net before passing the puck to the blue line for Michael Colbourne to fire in. Marc scored on the rebound. The Canadiens scored three goals but the Toros kept trying and it paid off as Michael scored the final goal, assisted by Chris Brown and Ryan Putnam. Canadiens 5 Toros 0 This was a rematch for the clubs and the score does not indicate the type of game it was but it does show that the Canadiens capitalized on their chances. The Toros had many two on one breaks and kept the Canadiens hemmed in their own end for long periods but they could not get the puck in the net. Jeff Flintoff and Jeff Acheson played strong games for the Toros and Jeff Rohr continued his fine work back checking and helping out the defence. The Square Boys kept up the pace of the game as their captain Terry Kellet scored, assisted by Jason Speirs ending the game 5 - 2 for Square Boy. Playing in net for Square Boys was Paul Brooks as he was forced to make some fine stops throughout the entire game. Also Square Boys' defensemen played very well, making key plays and checks. Missing in their line-up because of a foot problem was centreman Brad Richard. It was also learned after the game that winger Greg Porte- lance had broken his arm from a fall during the game and will be missed six to seven weeks. Keep up the fine work boys. Square Boy pizza, Meet ! Nichol's'Mtifors On Oct. 27, Square Boys played "Nichol's Motors, picking up their second win. Square Boys' captain Kellet and Shane Crombie have big game. Defensemen Brent Gibson and Jim McGregor (the big "M") teamed up to make some good plays and checking in their own end. Also Square Boys netminder (our Mr. Brooks) played a strong game as he made a couple of crucial saves during the game. With less than a minute to go in the game Shane Crombie, wheeling wheeling his way down the ice, broke through the defense with some good moves and was able to get a shot away on the goalie that rolled over the line to score. Good effort on all. Keep it up. Next game Nov. 3 vs Capri Restaurant. Tlie Heritage House Pee Wee Toros played three games over the weekend of Oct. 27 - 28 with the following results. On Saturday afternoon, the team hosted Thornhill at Darlington and came away with a well deserved 5 - 3 victory. The referees were kept busy as they handed out 16 minor penalties, six to the home side. A good team effort was required by the local lads as they were outshol 23 - 18. An outstanding three goal, one assist performance by Paul Woodlock earned him first star honours. This was Paul's first "hat trick" of the season with the third goal going into an empty net as the clock showed 30 seconds left in the game. Second Star of the game was Shawn McFadden whose tireless tireless effort earned him a goal, on the prettiest three way passing play of the season, and an assist. Third Star was Chris Albin in net, who looked very sharp in his first fall game between the pipes. Other scorers were Chris Forsey one goal, Brandon Donohue two assists, single assists to Todd Banks, Brook Clements, Kevin Farrow and Brian James. The second game of the weekend saw the Toros travel to the Oshawa Civic Auditorium Auditorium for an exhibition game against the Little N.H.L. Red Wings. The boys clearly showed the effects of coming off the ice against Thornhill and racing to Oshawa with their equipment on for this contest. The boys were no match for the speedy Oshawa Club on this occasion and were outshot 41 - 26 and outscored 12 -4. As well as being tired they were without the services of Todd and Brad Banks and defenceman Tom White out indefinitely with a suspected broken thumb. Speedy recovery to Tom who is certainly certainly missed on the blue line. The Bowmanville boys should not be discouraged and certainly certainly tried hard under very difficult circumstances. Three stars were Paul Woodlock with two goals and one assist, Shawn McFadden with one goal and Brian James who filled in admirably on defence. Other scorers were Brook Clements one goal with assists to Chris Forsey, Dave Smith and Martin D'Entremont. On Sunday, Oct. 28 the Toros travelled to Markham for their fourth game of the season in the Lakeshore League, sporting a two and one record. The host club was certainly ready for this game, outshooting our. boys 41 to 18 and outscoring them 10 to 0. Three stars were Todd Banks, Brian James and Chris Forsey. Bell Major Bantams Toros Rick Up Only One Point The Bell Major Bantams slipped a little as they were able to pull one point from three games. On Friday, Oct. 20 the Toros travelled to Stouffviiie and were able to salvage a 5 - 5 tie. A very slow start for the Bell boys gave Stouffviiie enough room to jump out to a 2 - 0 lead before Mike Kane found his mark from Troy Harness. This seemed to spark the boys as Craig de Blois unassisted and Mark Tripp from Kevin Flintoff and Mike Kane put Bowmanville ahead. Stouffviiie was not to be put down and two more goals put them ahead 4 - 3. Bowmanville was able to tie the score on Kevin Flintoff's goal from Tripp and Albert Big Canoe. One more exchange of goals, the Bell goal Brad Carnegie from Mike Kane pulled the two sides even. Sat., Oct. 21 was spent in Uxbridge but alas the boys were only able to come up with two goals while Uxbridge managed three. The boys seemed to come alive for this one but only enough to play between the first and third period, however they were able to move out to a 1 - 0 lead on a goal by Chris Hall, unassisted. Uxbridge, early in the second, found the mark and beat goaltender Darrin Bunker. The Bell boys came to life and playing well, moved out on a goal by Brad Carnegie unassisted before Uxbridge came back to tie at 5:44 of the second. The third period was a tight period until with just 22 seconds left, a 3 on 0 break saw Uxbridge pop the winning goal.- Feeling that better was to happen, the boys hosted the Oshawa Red Wings and succumbed to a 7 - 3 loss. Oshawa was able to exchange goals until they had a 2 - 2 tie before they exploded for four unanswered goals. With just five minutes to go the two teams exchanged one last goal. Bowmanville goals were scored by Mark Tripp from Rob Real, Chris Hall from Troy Neall, Gareth Stone from Eric Janssens. Minor Midgets Lose to Markham In the report of the Bowmanville Bowmanville - Oshawa Bruins game played on Oct. 3rd, the writer incorrectly credited Houston with three goals. This should have read a hat trick for David Fairey. Sorry David. On Friday, Oct. 26, the Canadian Tire Minor Midgets travelled to Markham for a league game and came away on the short end of a 4 - 2 score. Scoring for Bowmanville in the first two periods of play were George Pithie assisted by Campbell and Edmondson with Bowmanville's other goal scored by Edmondson from Houston and Pithie. The score after two periods of play was tied 2 - 2. A strong Markham club playing a very physical game came on in the third to score two more goals. Bowmanville was short three players for the game and did well to hold Markham to four goals with only two lines and four defense. Wednesday, Oct. 31 Ajax "AA" 9 - Bowmanville 6 Ajax scored their first goal after just nine seconds of play. This set the- pattern of the entire game with Bowmanville Bowmanville always being one or two goals behind the visitors and at the end of the game the score was 9 - 6 in favor of Ajax. Goals for Bowmanville were scored by several team members. Pithie and Martin each had a pair and singles were scored by Campbell and Edmondson. Players getting assists were Stainton (three), Dodd (two), Houston, Davidson, Davidson, Sidor, Downing and Campbell.
