It's the first deal made by the 20-year-old Olympian since his double gold medal performance at the Summer Games in Los Angeles. Baumann signed a two-year contract to promote eggs in national television and radio commercials to be aired starting in 1985. His picture will also appear on billboard advertisements and pamphlets. Baumann said he has very clear ideas about what sort of products he is willing to be associated with and eggs are consistent with those ideas. "It is very important to me to represent the right kind of sponsor. The product I promote must be one I use. I would feel uncomfortable under any other circumstances." circumstances." According to Baumann's mother, his typical breakfast includes a half dozen eggs. CEMA General Manager Jean Brassard said the agency selected Baumann because he is an excellent example for young people. "Alex has set goals for himself and he's attained them through discipline, hard work and sensible living. The important thing to us is that he is the kind of person we think young people of Canada can identify with," said Brassard. "The trend today among all Canadians is towards a more active lifestyle and good nutrition plays an important role in this lifestyle. I can't think of a better person to deliver our product's nutritional message than Alex." Baumann's personal, commitment to CEMA was made through the Canadian Amateur Swimming Association to maintain his amateur status and allow him to continue competing. CEMA is a producer-run corporation, one of whose functions is to promote egg use. This is accomplished in concert with the 10 provincial egg marketing boards. James Insurance i r,--,i.
