Bolahood's Loses Close One Flying Dutchman Major Atoms Drop Two Games By Jimmy Olsen On Tuesday, October 30th Bolahoods hosted a strong Pickering team. Bowmanville held the edge in play for the first period with some fine two way hockey, and netted the first goal on some excellent forechecking. Matt Dykstra scored Bolahoods only goal on a hard rising wrist shot with Jeff Martin assisting. Both Pickering goals were accounted accounted for on deflections in front, of Bowmanville's net. Coach Osmond should be very pleased with this fine effort as Bolahoods had lost to this same club (earlier in the season) by a 9 to 1 count. Peterborough 4 Bolahoods 1 On Friday, November 2nd Bolahoods travelled to Peterborough Peterborough and came up on the short end of a 4 - 1 score. Bolahoods kept up a fine forechecking forechecking pace early in this contest but were finally over- come in the third period. Numerous injuries throughout this contest seemed to play a major role in Bowmanville's loss. Mathew Atkins scored the lone Bowmanville goal, unassisted. Markham 5 Bolahoods 1 On Saturday, November 3rd Markham Atoms were the visitors and came away with a hard fought 5 to 1 victory. Bowmanville seemed to hold the edge in play early in this contest, and missed some excellent scoring chances, Mathew Atkins played a fine two way hockey game with numerous scoring opportunities opportunities and Bowmanville's lone goal was scored by Craig Forsey unassisted who also played a fine two way lively game. Once again Bolahoods had numerous scoring chances to put away this game, but failed to finish off the plays. The Flying Dutchman Major Atom Toros dropped a couple of O.M.H.A. League games last week, losing to Stouffville on Monday, Oct. 29th and a home game loss to Lindsay last Saturday 5 - 3. On Monday night, the Toros ran into a hot Stouffville club and found themselves at the wrong end of a 5 - 0 score before they could get on the scoreboard. The Toros didn't score a goal until late in the final period when Jason Edmondson Edmondson found the range with 6:09 remaining in the game. The assists went to Todd Cannings and David Real. Cannings fired the second Toro goal, the assist going to Marty Burgess. Burgess scored the last goal of the game with the assist going to Joel Crombie, but it was a case of too little, too late. The "Dutchmen" found it difficult getting used to the much smaller ice surface in the Stouffville arena and it wasn't until the final stanza that they could finally get untracked. Eddie Strickland was in goal for the Toros and didn't get much protection as the Stouffville Stouffville team forechecked relentlessly, relentlessly, forcing the Toro players players into making errors in their own zone. On Saturday, the Lindsay Major Atoms paid a visit to the Darlington Arena, and handed the Bowmanville club a 5 - 4 defeat. The Toros jumped into an early lead on an unassisted goal by Todd Cannings. It took Lindsay only 10 seconds to get the goal back. Kyle Purdy fired a goal to put the Toros into the lead again, the assists going to his linemates Ryan Stewart and Marty Burgess. The visitors scored the next two goals to go ahead, going into the middle frame. Cannings notched his second of the game, again tying the game. The assists went to Joel Crombie and Stewart. Lindsay picked up two more goals to round out the period. Steve Desmedt scored the fourth Toro goal, assisted by David Real and Todd Cannings Cannings who had a marvellous game. Paul Zwicker and Eddie Strickland shared the goaltending chores for Bowmanville Bowmanville and both lads had to make some great stops as they were left unprotected on several occasions. However, we will miss the services of Andrew Rice on defence while he is recovering from a broken collarbone suffered in last night's game. Hope it's a quick recovery Andrew!
