Through an agreement between Ontario Hydro and the Town of Newcastle, approximately $189,000 will be contributed towards fire department department improvements by Ontario Hydro. Members of Newcastle's hydro liaison committee agreed last •Thursday with many recommendations recommendations from a consultant who suggested ways to make the town's fire department more effective. Other suggestions such as the hiring hiring of more full-time personnel have been deferred until la'ter years. The hydro liaison committee was told that Ontario Hydro has agreed to build a training centre on the site of the Darlington Generating Station. Station. Costs of the centre would be shared by the municipality and by Hydro. Firefighters from the Darlington Darlington Generating Station and the Town of Newcastle would both use the facility. Fire Chief Jim Aldridge noted at last week's meeting that the site would include a small training tower and facilities for practising with hoses, respirators, ladders, and other equipment. The facility will improve the skills of firefighters firefighters for both forces. "This is how we build up their confidence," said Chief Aldridge. The town's share of the training site would be approximately $38,000. At last Thursday's meeting, the committee voted to purchase a $125,000 pumper which will be ordered ordered in 1985 through funds contained contained in the town's agreement with Ontario Hydro. In addition, the committee recommended recommended the purchase of a new tanker fire truck for improved rural protection in 1986. An additional 10 part-time firefighters firefighters have been approved at the committee level. However, the group has decided not to hire more full-time staff at this time. If town council approves the hydro committee recommendations, recommendations, the number of firefighters will be increased to 79. "We're trying to maximize the efficiency efficiency of dealing with human resources," resources," said Chief Administrator David Johnston. He told the committee committee that it is more efficient to put 10 firefighters through the training program at once. All recommendations from last week's hydro liaison committee will now go to Newcastle town council council for final approval. Intro Dating Service Why spend the long winter alone?
