King Garden Wins 2 Weekend Games By Bob Sheridan On Friday night, supported by the superb goaltenchng of Art Hester we defeated Bowmanville Audio Vision 4 - 2. Bob Sheridan was left alone ten feet out in front of the net where he received a perfect pass from Irv Gill. Ken Veitch who played a solid game all night had no chance on this wicked drive to the far corner. George Sainsbury then took a pass from Bob Marjerrison and scored with a typical cannonading blast. Gary Bradley next scored for Audio- Vision slapping at a loose puck which popped high in the air and fell behind Art's shoulder just under the cross bar. Joe Balson put the King's team ahead giving Grant Flintoff a fine pass right on the killing ground. Grant made no mistake. Again Audio-Vision rallied with a goal by Phil Solman assisted by Ken Bradley. Irv Gill however, taking passes from Roger Shingler and Joe Balson finished the scoring with a short-handed goal. On Saturday afternoon we defeated Orono Oldtimers 6 - 2. George Sainsbury scored on a set-up from Hugh German mid-way through the first period. Bob Sheridan scored two goals assisted by Hugh and George. Hugh then scored the prettiest goal of the game taking a pass from Bob Sheridan in full stride as he roared in -from the blue line and drove it into the net with one fluid motion. Our final goals were contributed by Grant Flintoff and George Sainsbury. Irv Gill rounded out a fine weekend with assists on the last two goals. Our defense corps of Ray Crombie, Warren Townsley, Bob Hellam, Dan Girardi and the erstwhile goaltender Grant Wright, were solid in front of Art Hester in this game. Roger Shingler, Ray Preston and Jim Olinski put on a fine show in Friday night's hard checking game. Wright Haulage The 1984 Panasonic - Bowmanville Bowmanville Audio Vision Invitational Invitational Men's Bonspiel was held Saturday and Sunday, November 17th and 18th. Teams representing curling clubs in Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Port Perry as well as Bowmanville were entered. The "A" event winner was the Steve Foster rink from Port Perry with vice Ron Parish, second Don Beaton and. lead Ken Goreski. Foster's rink went undefeated and clinched the trophy and first prize by beating Ron Allisons rink from Whitby in the 'A' event final. ' The "B" event winner was Mickey Bonnr's rink from Annandale.. Curling vice was Hugh McDonald, second Bill Burnett and lead Marty Schieman. The "C" event winner was Phil Sturch's rink from Oshawa Curling Club. Goal scorers were Warren Bate, Joey Bate and Justin Merkac with Justin picking up two assists and Joey picking up two assists. The entire team skated hard and fast and deserved the win with special mention to Carlo Warr who played his best game of the season. Dan Kooy and Greg Cook who were reversed in positions and both played excellently in their new spot. On Saturday the Selects held their Skate-A-Thon with each member doing a 100 laps and I would like to thank all the sponsors and parents for making this so successful. On Sunday, November 18th the Selects travelled to Agin- court and played the Atom Allstar team from Agincourt losing to Agincourt's bigger, more experienced team 6-1. The Bowmanville team played excellently after being a little awe-struck of Agincourt and allowing them to score five times in the first 10 minutes of the game before realizing they could skate with them playing them to a 1 -1 tie for the next 40 minutes of the game with Joey Bale scoring Bowmanville's Bowmanville's only goal. Hydro Atoms Undefeated Hydro Atoms won another one against London Life to keep their undefeated season in tact. The final score was 3 - 2 with goals scored by Greg Cook, Brad Hargest and Jason Moore with assists going to Leeann Somerscales. The team continue with their hard forechecking and outskaling their opponents which has proved the difference difference to keep them on the winning track, Special mention mention has to go to Sarah Couch who made some excellent saves in the first half of the game to keep London Life off the scoreboard.
